Sports Direct Refund

Hi,
Any high street store I have dealt with always provided refund by the same method e.g. cash or card. Sports Direct is only one retailer who provides a gift card if a item is returned.
Are they legally correct by doing this?

What is the reason for the return?0

You have no statutory entitlement to a refund for change of mind. Technically they don't even have to give you a giftcard in these circumstances. If the item is faulty however then they can't restrict the refund to giftcards.0

OP, it would also be interesting to know how long after purchase the return was made.0

Hi, The return was made within 7 days in same condition as bought (basically new).
If their is no statutory entitlement then why other store/supermarket issue the refunds.0 -

Good will & desire to remain in the customer's good graces, something which Sports Direct are not known for - ultimately given their standing as the biggest sporting goods chain in the UK they don't need to be.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
There are also prominent signs in my local store stating no refunds (but it does not affect your statutory rights).

I'm fairly certain signs that say "No refunds (your statutory rights are unaffected)" are not legal since it is assumed the average consumer will not know what their statutory rights are.0 -
Of course they're legal. If the shop only offers refunds when statutory rights are involved then the signs are informative, accurate and factual. It might educate those customers who believe that a shop must refund for any reason.
I never thought I'd defend Sports Direct0 -

Of course they're legal. How otherwise do you think they've been around all over the place for decades without being banned?0
