  • Denton? oh dear never mind,i lived 2 miles from there most of my life, and tbh its the last place god made truely dreadful and well thats all really,i suppose love is blind
could you move in with her or her family?
  • I do aprechiate your replies but how can i possibly get a job in manchester without first moving there?

the train ticket is £60 return per day - thats more than I would make in a job.

she does not want to move in straight away and she works.

Theres no way i will let her pay for everything either - I find that very unfair to her

Its ok ill just save up the money and private rent myself and make sure I can afford to top up the rent if need be.

    Thank you.

You can apply for jobs before you move and then move when you've got one.

hmm thats pretty risky though isnt it? What happens while im waiting to get paid to pay the rent in advance etc?

Also I wont be able to afford to get to the job each day for the time between starting and getting my first pay check? and then it takes time to find somewhere to live.

Also to complicate matters even more - I have no refs for renting (as i have lived with my mum all my life and no-one who could be a garentor?

    It cant be that easy?

Good Luck to you in starting your new life but you are right, it will be tricky.

As HBO has stated, you would only be entitled to the Shared Room Rate of Local Housing Allowance which really restricts the places you could afford, although living in London, you will notice a difference in the prices in Manchester.

Quite often, there are voluntary charities which rent out accommodation in certain areas if you meet the criteria. Depending on the medical evidence you can gather from your GP for your condition, you may find something that way?

If you were to claim Personal Independence Payments (the new type of DLA), and be granted the personal care component, you may qualify for the 1 bed rate of LHA but you have to be considered as severely disabled so it would need to be the higher rate.

As I say, this is the start of your new life and I wish you the very best of luck!

Wouldn't it make more sense for your girlfriend to move to London where she'll have somewhere to live, more chance of getting a job and you'll be able to carry on looking after your mother?

This was my first thought as well. OP is this a possibility? It would seem a better solution as both the OPer and his mother are vulnerable.

I didn't say it was going to be easy but you need to save up a bit to cover your start up expenses. It needn't take long to find a flatshare but the simple fact is that you can't afford to rent a whole flat for yourself.

It’s how most people do it. I've just moved to a different city. I searched online for my job, applied, travelled down for an interview, and when they gave me a start date, then I set about finding somewhere to live and organising my move.

It would mean you saving up money to live off in between moving up there and you getting your first pay check.

I know getting the train up for interviews could work out expensive, but it will be a lot cheaper than living there without a job! And if you can travel up the day before and stay with your girlfriend for just the one night then you can get the coach or even megabus if you’re really short on cash.
  • Would a live in job be an option with your anxiety? You've been a carer for your mother, could you be a live-in carer for someone else?
