Peel centre parking fine - £60

Hey guys
So I received my first parking fine yesterday, safe to say I was gutted.
I arrived in the car park at 8:30. I've parked before and last time I was there it was free after 8.... But thats obviously not the case anymore
I parked at 8 and with most of the shop shut you would think it would be free. Ran into nandos and left at 9:45.
I had no ticket but a few days later I was caught on camera entering and leaving.
So I now have a £60 fine for not displaying a ticket which should of cost me £1
My mum and dad got the same fine last week and payed off the £60.
I for one don't wanna add and give them £120 in 2 weeks.
Mum keeps telling me to pay it but I don't know what to do
Any advice?
I've been told to ignore but me being 20 I have no knowledge of appealing or going to court or anything?
Cheers guys

Tell you what to do.
Use the search facility and search on "Peel". Lots of threads already containing advice and what has progressed. Ignore any threads that were started before April.
After reading the threads - or some of them - you will see what has transpired, what is involved and you should have sufficient information to make your mind up.
Be aware that the signage has improved substantially in the last month or so.0 -

Do a forum search on 'ignoring a parking fine' and it will bring up lots of posts.
If it's not council owned, ignore it.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Just the one??? Sorry, not trying to be mean and thanks for advising Pottsy, but there are so many Peel threads on here that you can't miss them.
But your advice to ignore is very bad advice, I am sorry to say.0 -
Do a forum search on 'ignoring a parking fine' and it will bring up lots of posts.
It will bring up millions of OLD posts, likely to lock up your computer.
'Ignore' no longer applies in the majority of cases since the game changed, partially through the introduction of PoFA 2012 (which was encouraged by the BPA advising Government that the Act would free up the courts), but largely by the overwhelming issue of thousands of court papers (completely blowing open the BPA lie to Government) by ParkingEye, in particular, and CEL to a lesser degree.
Please dispense advice in these cases only with up-to-date knowledge, poor advice can cost the motorist, not save them money :money:Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Seconded.
Pottsy292, use the 'search this forum' heading - top right of the titles immediately above the thread list on page one of the parking forum (which is always one click away, as per my signature below). Then put in the single keyword 'Peel' and change the default search to 'show posts' NOT show threads.
You will soon learn about the tricks Excel play and how to respond and how to beat this on appeal in the end, using POPLA (which you can also search the forum for).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

yeah having a look around many people are saying ignore.
i just dont want to be in the !!!! as im young and need a good credit rating score for finance on my car and insurance etc
i was just wondering is it worth appealing or just paying it?
like i said last time i visited it was free after 8 o clock
i rang nandos yesterday and they told me it was free after 8 to which i said it isnt as i have a fine. they said they cant accept liability for this as its not under their control
it was dark and raining and when its 8:30 and your staving you just want to eat :') i didnt bother reading the sign as ive done it before and known its free after 8.... i just havnt been recently
if you feel this is a good enough appeal could anyone guide me or help me write a template/appeal for them as i really dont know how to go about this?
very thankful of your help. cheers0 -

But no, they really are not now. NOT since Easter at least (some of us advised appealing as far back as late 2012...!).
There is no effect on your credit rating, this is NOT a FINE(!!) this is a scam and easy to beat. This thread explains about how it doesn't affect your credit rating (but bear in mind it's an old thread so if it mentions the 'ignore' word then take that bit with a pinch of salt):

Anyway you do just need to read Peel threads and POPLA threads that are recent, we can't advise you better than that. When you do that search of the word Peel or POPLA you will find the good appeal examples you seek. What you have said is not the way to appeal so you need to read the search results...
Stop reading old threads that say 'ignore'. DO NOT PAY THE THING FOR GAWD'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

thanks for your response!
do you have any good threads i can use.
its a first for me making an appeal or even really writing a letter. aint wrote one since high school -.-
this is what happens when you want to be an electrical engineer haha :')
do you feel i could win with this argument?
say i wrote to them saying...
dear sir/madam
I have recently received a parking charge for parking on your premises. I wasn't aware, as it was late at night and all the shops are shut, that i needed to pay the fine. it was raining and it was dark.
i have parked here before a while back and i know it has been free after 8 in the past and i was unaware that the rules have changed.
i went into nandos and asked, to which i was told it was free after 8.
please may i ask to discard of this parking charge or if not please may i have a POPLA code so i may write to them, as i am aware this is in my rights and you, by law, must provide me this.
Many thanks0 -
When u get ur code come bk here first.
Don't appeal to popla without our helpProud to be a member of the Anti Enforcement Hobbyist Gang.:D:T0 -
sorry
i know youve been over this so many times in loads of different posts.
im just not great and putting things together. i blame this on being young and having no experience. mum keeps telling me to pay it but i guess theres no harm in appealing.
i just dont know where to start with appealing or how good my argument actually is.
im aware this isnt a fine. its a parking charge.
but i just feel this is like way above me :') maybe thats stupid0 -
Your first letter of appeal to the PPC isn't that important. You could issue the most legally proficient letter in the world, it would be highly unlikely to result in a cancellation of the PCN.
What you need to get is a POPLA code, and to be honest, the more apparently naive the initial appeal appears, the more likely a POPLA code is to be forthcoming. Once you've got that POPLA code you're in a better position to be able to get this knocked on the head.
But, be warned, you are going to have to construct a very detailed appeal to POPLA. If you are expecting just to press a few keys on your smartphone and, hey presto, we'll do it for you, and all will be cancelled, think again; maybe take your parents' advice, cos it ain't going to happen.
You need to do bags of reading and get an understanding of what a good POPLA appeal looks like.
You can copy and paste from previous successful appeals, but you MUST understand what you are dealing with, and this will only come about by studying (as all of we do daily) the threads that are emerging and the latest advice and guidance.
Spend the time, after sending off your initial appeal to the PPC, studying the forum (also Pepipoo.com) to understand the issues and how to put your POPLA appeal together.
