Book Give aways and new posters .. Thinks

Just an observation guys, but at the moment Matins blagged 200 books by Jamie Oliver free for MSE users.
Personally I don't want his book not even as a freebie .
At £26 and coincidentally " blagged " more or less exactly as his new programme is launched my thoughts are that this is more of a promotion .
However I digress,
The thread has a massive response especially from "new" Posters or older posters with very few posts

My question is .. surely freebies should be given to regular posters and not newbies or alts ?

Some of them haven't even managed to post "Pukka deal, Lewis" on the right thread - it's even clogging up the comments on the Martin on Jamie radio times site article. (looks like the promotion's working both ways)"And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0

I agree with Mandi, I have just looked through a few pages of that topic and it is like a who's who of alternate account newbies, way more than would be statistically probable.
On page #252 for example there are 11 members joined in the last several days still with a newbie badge, and 9 who have a very low post count yet have accounts that have been around for years but decided this day of all days they are going to come and grace us with their presence.
Now do not call me a cynic, but the former forum admin in me gets very suspicious when I see posting patterns like this, it is like everyone in the world has simultaneously decided that this is the day they are going to post for only that topic, and that just does not happen."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
A colleague of mine at work who receives Martin's email signed up, as requested, to enter for this giveaway. Are you saying that this isn't allowed? Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

No Cbrown, what we are saying is that it is statistically improbable for hundreds of long-disappeared posters to suddenly appear out of the blue along with hundreds of posting newbies to sign up this week specifically to post on that thread.
You would think they would find something more interesting to win than a cookbook from someone who is only famous because of an accident.
I cannot be bothered going through the entire topic collating and crunching the numbers but I am guessing that 98% of those that have entered either stopped posting years ago or signed up in the last week.
That just does not happen anywhere in the real world."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Remember, we have to be especially nice to newbies, even if they are making multiple AE accounts to blag all the freebies to sell on ebay :cool:0

What do you mean by the thread is in game over?Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -

it's been moved to show/because the competitions ended."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0 -
Well i'm glad it's not just me thinking this.
When i noticed earlier today how many had signed up i thought, .... I hadn't realised we had that many members.
It will be interesting to watch the post count of some of Newies after the draw is made. If they're all going to stay and join in our day-to-day banter i'd like to be first to welcome them.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
