Post Office want to charge £20 for docs that never arrived

A few months ago bought car insurance from the Post Office. I got my £50 rebate some time later but the insurance documents themselves never arrived.

Anyway, I thought I'd call up today to ask why I hadn't received them and they're telling me I need to pay £20 admin fee because I didn't call within 7 days of taking the policy out. Is this fair? £20!

No it doesn't sound right. Phone them again and make sure they understand it's not that you have lost them its that their Royal Mail colleges lost them.

That was my stance on the phone but they insisted I had to call within 7 days

Royal Mail only class items as lost "after 15 working days".

So asking you to call them after 7 is just absurd. Best spell out the fact that either way, it's not your responsibility. It's a disgrace they're asking for this fee at all.

I'd back you if it was a few weeks, or even a month, but multiple months? There's no way you'd convince me, this far down the line, that you'd not received them rather than lost them.

    Good luck

Agreed and I'd go along with that only their own call logs show that I did actually call on the 7th day, but they haven't recorded the context of my discussion so I can't prove I asked them.

I guess I'll just have to write this one off.
