Train Station Burger King
Comments

Next time you're in Central Station and decide to go to Burger King, head out the Union street entrance and cross the road (if you don't have loads of bags with you) and there's a Burger King where prices are normal. Even better exit the main entrance and turn right, within 2 yards you'll find a 24 hour newsagent. It does seem excessively expensive in comparison with the price for the same items elsewhere, (Somerfield across the road would probably haver got you almost 4 litres of coke for the same price)Bought, not Brought0

Just as I was gonna say - There's a Somerfield across the road, a Subway near, a Burger King just opposite (has it reopened yet? Was being done up last time I went), a KFC down the road and a McDonald's down the road, plus chippys, newsagents anything else you can imagine..."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

And do they not make 3 times and 5 times the profits then?
No they don't.
Places like motorway service areas come in for a lot of flak for their prices - don't blame them, blame the conditions under which they are forced to operate and the fees they have pay for the pleasure of doing so.
Motorway service areas, for example, have to provide a full range of services 24 hours a day, 364 days a year - this has to be paid for. They are allowed to shut Christmas Day - except for fuel !
Same with airports, the shops there all pay VERY high rents to the airport owner.
Who benefits from this; obviously the trading outlets have to make a profit otherwise they wouldn't bother being there - the main beneficiary is the Government who dictate the trading conditions and in many cases the Government has more than one finger in this financial pie by selling licences to the site operators.
If these outlets were allowed to operate under the same rules as everyone else their prices would be cheaper - but you wouldn't get much at 2 in the morning on the M6, possibly including fuel !0 -

I use to work at one whilst I did my A Levels.
I use to be amazed as a 16/17 year old at the amount of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 ,70 etc years old age group who seemed to have apparently never traveled and are completely oblivious to the fact that Motorway Service Stations had high prices.
I knew this when I was 6!
Was everyone else stupid or was I just bright?
One of the most ridiculous memories (my first of general public stupidity/ignorance) was a vicar. This was the mid 90's. I think I was earning just over £2 an hour for my part time job at 17 years old.
I remember a vicar brought something, can't remember what it was. He turned round to 3 16/17 year olds on the till with regard to the price saying "you should all be horsewhipped!" and stormed off.
A vicar, I thought they were suppose to be nice!
It's just one of those things that makes me laugh though. He must have been one of those people who's brain is so tiny you'd need a microscope to see it. I hope he's still alive and has read this!0 -
I know in the Book Industry within Airports, they make approx 50% profit from each book sold. around 30% of that goes straight into BAA's pockets!!moonrakerz wrote: »No they don't.
