Caught speeding - HELP!
I was wondering if anyone else has been caught speeding doing 37 in a 30, did they send you on a speed awareness course or was it points and fine?
They have sent a letter to my fianc!e who owns the car but I have filled it in saying it was me, do they send a letter back saying I can go on course/ will get points on licence or when do I find out?
I can feel a night on the sofa coming on!
Thanks

The correct procedure is she fills it in as its her its addressed to. She names you and then you get your own paperwork.0 -
Doesn't help really, but there's one positive thing....
They're clamping down on 30 limits
I hate nothing more than the morons who drive about at 42mph on every single road, regardless of speed limits, schools or hazards!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I know someone who recently went on a speed awareness course for doing 39 in a 30 so I'd think you will be offfered it.
It was about a week from confirming the driver's identity to being offered the course.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
If an awareness course scheme is running in your area, and you meet the criteria, you may be offered it although it is not an automatic right.
If you are, then you have the choice of taking the course (fees vary from around £70-£90 depending on your area) or accepting the fine and points.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Probably worth getting over to pepipoo for some clear advice for your local area etcWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Yes, she did, offence was only on the 29th of August

The ACPO guidelines suggest an offer of a speed awareness course for up to 42MPH in a 30 limit so, assuming you haven't had one in the past few years, you've got a good chance of being offered the course.
Seeing as you don't seem to be denying that you were doing that speed, I'd suggest that if you're offered one you take the course rather than trying to find loopholes in the NIP.
It's a lot less stressful to just pay up and turn up rather than trying to wriggle out on a technicality and the, sadly unfashionable, phrase "it's a fair cop, guv" when caught out doing something you shouldn't has a lot to recommend it!
Note that I'm not commenting on the validity, or otherwise, of speed limits in the above. Personally, I'd rather have no limits and require drivers to use sound judgement of the conditions, then hammer those who get t wrong with jail terms and permanent loss of licence. But, as things stand, the law says "that's the speed" and if you exceed it you should be prepared for the consequences.
The courses themselves are useful or not depending entirely on your own attitude while you're there - if you're ok with learning / being reminded of stuff you once learned then they're worthwhile, if you have an "I know best / nothing to learn" mindset then doing one is probably a waste of everyones time

They are a waste of time, yes everyone should drive under the limit, but everyone does not and if you drive at the limit, sooner or later someone will make a mistake over taking you and either write off your car or worse kill you.Be happy...;)0
