Waiting here as well:mad: offer made end of June, accepted next day. Mortgage, searches everything done by us and our (great) solicitor in super fast time. Hear nothing for weeks. Knocked on the door to chat to seller. He was waiting for son to go to uni so end of September would be great for him. Agreed, end of September came and went...

We had another conversation, oh yes I didn't realise there was any rush (we are paying for (v Expensive...) rental....) Will Oct 21st be ok. YES YES YES. Went in to solicitors yesterday and they have heard nothing-no exchange date, nothing.

Hubbie has changed work dates, we have told our landlord we are leaving end of Oct (had no choice in this or had to take for another year).

So, So Frustrating. Told EA (useless) this morning, if we don't get an exchange date this week, we will be viewing other houses next week. FED UP:mad:
  • Update from me.

Went back with a revised offer yesterday morning.

No reply for the seller as yet 24 hours later. If no resolution is reached, I drop out tomorrow afternoon.

For me this is bordering on criminal.

Falsely representing themselves at the start of the process by accepting an offer, delaying the procedure, then at the last minute when the buyer is financially out of pocket to the tune of hundreds of pounds, financially and emotionally tied into the purchase, upping the price, threatening the buyer with a loss in order to make a substantial gain.

Hits many of the points to prove in the fraud act 2006

It's not criminal, it's business. But then again there isn't much difference between the two! :rotfl:

Oh the joys of buying in a rising market! The seller obviously isn't in a hurry, but I can't say I blame him for wanting more money. He is probably worried about what he can afford after the sale.

I'm at my wits' end. The originally-agreed day of exchange comes and goes without any word or news. Agent can't get hold of the seller; solicitors all go quiet. It's like the seller just disappeared?? :-S
I honestly don't know what to do...

Ask your solicitor not to incur any more expense for the time being. Go and look at other property. If you find something, they put an offer in and take it from there. If your sellers come back, well, see how you feel when they do.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Just been through this with a new build over the last week. Not quite the same, but even something without a chain can be frustrating as hell. Had to drop out yesterday due to under valuation by Nationwide. The builder wanted us to switch to Halifax (and sort of hinted they had some form of 'relationship' with the surveyor that does the valuations for Halifax) so they could get full asking price. They wanted us to pay all the fees etc. associated with starting the mortgage app over again with a new provider at first, but after a week of talks, they finally offered to give us back the fees as a cash incentive on completion.

We had already negotiated they would pay the stamp duty and it seems Halifax only allows 1% of the purchased share with HTB in cash incentives, so that mortgage would have never gone through anyway, even though they are the ones that suggested it, we would just have been frustrated and out of pocket a second time. Happy I told them it was time to part ways.

Just shows buying a house is a pain, whichever way you do it. Pull out and start over, it's actually quite liberating...

Looks like the decision has been taken out of my hands - seller pulled out today :(

Thing is, after 7 months of torture, I've found that the property market has hiked up so significantly in my area that everything is now beyond my price bracket (thats why he pulled out, to re-market at a higher price, the jammy git). I've made a loss and am at a loss.

Sorry to hear it's fallen through. I've been waiting 7 months since my offer was accepted and worried the same will happen to me. I've thought several times about pulling out but I'm trying to buy in London and there's not really many places on the market and what does come on the market goes really quickly and usually way above the asking price. I thought the sale would be really quick as it's chain free but they converted a loft with no planning permission and also forgot to buy the space from the freeholder. I've been told we are now just waiting on one more document before we can start moving forward.

I'm lucky that my first offer was accepted (I thought they would reject it) and the place was below my budget as I'm fully expecting them to ask for more money when we finally get closer to exchange I just hope it's not a crazy amount!
