How about Flight Time Changes ? Where to complain and can I complain?

Hi
Recently had this really horrendous experience. Booked a flight with Etihad Outbound as 20:00 Thursday so I get to my destination in the afternoon about 12:30 Friday , suits me and the person who is picking me up.
Few days before it was due, I got a text from Etihad that that flight has been scheduled to leave 08:00 AM Friday and arrival will be 02:30 AM Saturday. That ruined everything and caused lot of inconvenience to all of us travelling and people coming to pick us up. Plus had to stay overnight in hotel to catch early flight plus dinner plus taxi to the hotel, etc.
Spoken to Etihad and they don't seem to care about it.
Any advice what could I do? Where I can complain at least to get the money that I have to over spend ?
Thanks

If you were leaving from an EU country and were given less than 14 days notice of a change of times resulting in a delay, I believe you are entitled to compensation under Reg 261/2004. So start reading FAQsHi

They did give notice a month before but the point is I was made to spend all that extra money which I was looking to save by booking this flight. Plus the arrival time was delayed by 14 hours i.e. instead of getting to my destination at 12:30 pm, I got there at 02:30 am.
Basically the whole plan had to be changed because of Etihad changing the flight times.
As I believe from their website, they just moved everyone from the original flight to this flight so the actual 20:00 flight never happened. I feel cheated and tricked by them as I decided to fly with them only because of the timings they were offering at that moment.
Is there nothing I can do to make them pay a compensation? Do I have any stand to even start this thing?

So long as they gave you 14 days notice of the flight change, there is no claim under EU261 at all.0

A few days and a month are quite different. As has been said, anything over 14 days does not qualify for EU compensation, you could try your travel insurance.
Did you ask Etihad beforehand what other options were available...you may have been able to cancel and get a refund and go book a flight elsewhere0 -
So were you notified a month before ...or "a few days before" ?
Schedule changes happen - but if you had a month to make new arrangements how did "ruin everything" and was" horrendous" ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
