Did you try taking it to the Apple Store? They might replace the phone for you as a goodwill gesture.0

Bought off eBay practically brand new 25/06/12 from private seller.
TBH, you might as well have bought it off a guy in the pub.
You've had 14 months of use out of it, it's the risk you take when buying off strangers.
Apple themselves do have quite a good reputation. If you pay them to repair it, they will probably guarantee the repair.
Or you could buy another off fleabay...;)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks, I may go down that route if I have no joy contacting the seller to instigate contact with the original supplier. The phone was around 2 weeks old when bought.
Fair enough if its general wear and tear but this is the 2nd time an Apple iPhone has failed due to a hardware issue. My expectation is for a quality product to last longer than just over a year.
To be honest I'm sick and tired of Apple so will move onto something else.0 -
You do that.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

Ok, thanks for the info.
Still not happy with the product failing. Will look to sell all Apple products I own and move onto something else.
A waste of my time and money as I really expect more.
What other Apple products do you own? Have you ever had any issues with them?
Its a bit harsh for you to say you will sell all Apple products you own because your wifi has died on your second hand iPhone.
Do you have proof when it was originally purchased by the person that sold you it? It may well be two years old by now. Who knows? That could well be the reason why Apple want to charge you so much.
unless of course you're a troll?0 -

I came here to seek advice from others with regards my situation.
The phone was first activated 2 weeks before I purchased it. So hence practically was brand new.
As for issues with Apple phones, ok... 3GS: same problem as described here, iPhone 4: home button unresponsive, another 3GS: signal failure.0 -

its irrelevant
you bought 2nd hand which is where you lost a lot of recourse0 -
It will always be the same no matter which brand/product... there'll always be someone who has issues and someone who doesn't. I bought an iPhone 3GS back in 2009 which my sister now has and it still works as well as the day I bought it. You had 3 faulty iPhones and decided to buy a 4th? Second hand at that!
Apple have been known to offer free replacements as a goodwill gesture so give it a try. I doubt you'll get anywhere with the seller:beer: Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
Hmm whilst I'm inclined to agree with the advice about the pit falls in buying second hand you do expect a what was once a high spec phone to last at least 5 years
How many of us have bashed out old Nokia's in a drawer that still works as intended. I have had a range of Apple products and not one has lasted more than 2 years via software or hardware failure. In particular my old ipod nano.
More striking to me is that after the relentless software and app updates one year down the line you have a phone that works at half the speed that was advertised, with the latest incarnation promising even faster speeds.
I had a brand new 4s via contract. Within 5 months it ground to a halt (bearing in mind ios is quite locked down), then the wifi hardware failed. I recieved an in warranty replacement which was a new phone and within a week of updating it to the latest ios I was back to using a slow phone. At the time Apple admitted that this was a known fault.
I sold the new phone and upgraded to a Galaxy s3 and haven't looked back since. Plus on orange I get free sky sports and access to do things like install any apps I choose, which opens up the capabilities of the phone.
Try an android phone. It takes a few weeks to get used to but well worth it. I'm just waiting for a galaxy s5 when my contracts up next year. The harder one works the luckier one gets!0 -
we have 3 Apple items in our household - DD's ipod touch 4th gen, 3plus years old, which we have problems with now due to updating it to the latest IOS version. It still works though.
Her ipad 2 which is 18 months old, which she loves, uses constantly, and has had no problems with.
And OH's iphone5. Its 9 months old, and works fine here in the UK for what he uses it for. However, we've just been abroad on holiday (Turkey) and its wifi pick-up range is complete rubbish, compared to DD's ipad and my cheap Android smartphone. Most times when we both had good coverage and a range of wifi spots coming up, he had nothing at all, or a spot would come into range then disappear from his phone.
OH is also now considering a Samsung (he's had them before) when his contract is due for upgrading.0
