Well its more than a few, and I wasn't including all catagories like property and holidays.
  • Ebay at the moment effectively have a monopoly situation so we have no choice but to use the services of a cynical greedy organisation. This will not always be the case though and as soon as there is another viable alternative fleeced sellers will migrate in their droves.
The only downside to this will be that this type of market will be fractured. If only Ebay were not so greedy and try and wring out every last drop of blood from over exploited sellers they would hold the monopoly for longer than they are in fact going to.

There are millions of alternatives, it's the internet, he world is your lobster.
You only think Ebay has a monopoly because it's easy to use and works. The only monopoly it has is on users who are too lazy to look elsewhere. The alternatives could end up costing you more and be less effective.
Any competitor that was as good as Ebay would charge the same or more. Amazon is a very good marketplace for selling on, their charges are slightly higher than Ebay's. Ebid is cheap and useless. You get what you pay for.
Talk of a monopoly is ridiculous, there isn't one.

If your business can't absorb a 10% fee rise on just the cost of the postage then perhaps its time to rethink your business model.

Loving your arrogance! All eBay sellers are not businesses but small private sellers who are selling their own collections and bits and pieces, some of which are quirky or retired and not generally available elsewhere. So there is no business to absorb the cost of anything and they either have to charge the buyer extra or take a hit on the extra cost themselves, neither of which is very fair. EBay is for everyone, not just tatty sellers purveying worthless tat from China and refilled ink cartridges!

According to some people on this thread the private sellers who sell their collections etc are a failed business model and the future is reselling cheap china trash.

If items are genuinely not available elsewhere, you'll be able to charge a premium and you should not be overly affected by the changes.

If you have genuinely sought after one-off items that are in demand, one would question why you were selling them on ebay in the first place when you could avoid fees by setting up your own website to sell them.

You really are an insufferable bore, banging on about what everyone else should be doing when you are part of the problem! "One would question" would one? I don't have the technical ability to set up my own website and as an occasional private seller rather than a big tycoon like you it would not get the level of use needed to make it viable. The good stuff on eBay is now being drowned in a sea of crap offered by people prepared to rip off buyers with inferior merchandise. Luckily there are still some discerning buyers who look for items of interest, pay promptly and take the time to leave their feedback. As a long-term eBayer I have over 3000 positive feedbacks - 100% - and I am very proud of that. You come across as the kind of person who gets a negative for bad service and doesn't care because there are plenty more suckers out there. if that is what eBay is becoming you are welcome to it quite frankly!

There is room for everyone to sell alongside each other and it is not for anyone to sneer at little sellers - they have their place just like independent retailers, who get just as little thought and support on the High Street!

I'm anything but a tycoon, I do ebay in the evenings and work during the day and pride myself on my customer service - 17,000+ feedback, 2 negatives from buyers who didn't read the description.

I do find your assertion that sellers of sought after, hard to find items will be affected in the slightest by the most recent changes.

I'm perfectly willing to debate the points you raise, but if you want to start insulting me, I'm quite happy to bow out.
