Nothing surprises me anymore. I know people who still don't shop online because they either don't trust it or don't realise how much is available. My Dad is in his sixties and puts them to shame, he gets nearly everything online and has booked nearly every holiday for the last 8 years that way.

Sorry to have asked a question on a public forum.

Online gives me an online price; It gives me the price that website charge, they could charge £10 or £1000, how do I know if that is reasonable?

What I was after was some idea on what I should be looking at paying, what is reasonable, what would people expect.

Rule of thumb I'd say is to take the Kwik Fit/National tyres price, subtract 25%, and you have your 'reasonable' price.
  • Let me see --- £71.88 fitted....

I now buy my tyres online from Camskill, once delivered I then go to my local back street tyre company and pay £8 per tyre to have them fitted and balanced.

Found you one for £55.80 inc VAT. (See link below)

It might be worth adding that before ordering tyres from a place like that to check what a local tyre place will charge to fit and balance the tyre.

I would, find the best total price online for tyre plus fitting, and then phone one or two local places to see if they will match or beat this before ordering.

If you go to Curry's website and see a scart lead for £50 do you take it as gospel that is reasonable?

I've never had to have a tyre replaced before or had to have anything but an MOT done!
I expect you do but just in case I'll ask, you do also get your car serviced, don't you?

Never paid for a service. Have a friend who can do brakes, oil and filters, air filter etc. However, I have had two cars and never done anything but an oil change and air filter as I do only a few thousand miles a year and things don't wear that quick.

I obviously do my own checks though where I can, hence how I know I need a new tyre.

(Before Mr. Don't Ask Questions asks, said friend, as well as others I know, just take their cars to places like Kwik Fit and pay a fortune for premium tyres too; being my car gets me to work and back, I have no intention to follow suit).

Just checking as believe it or not it's not that uncommon to get people posting here who don't change the oil for several years as they only do low mileage - looks like you have this well in order :).
