A regular BT line, with the appropriate equipment, does this.

i use Skype for chat after MS got rid of MSN/Live messenger. but i use flextel for a redirect number as its free

I've looked at flextel and I can't make sense if it.

So you get a local number for free and then it charges for connecting the call? Is this right? What are the bands all about? It says voicemail is free but a recording isn't, whats the difference?

I am looking for a local number to redirect to my mobile number as I will be out most of the day (starting a dog walking/pet services business).

A local 01 number is free for you if directed to a landline, but you are charge if its redirected to a mobile, but this is the same with all providers.

the best numbers to use are
    0844 Numbers - Free Destinations

These lower cost Business Numbers can be routed (forwarded/diverted) free of charge to all normal UK phones and landlines, all destinations connected via VoIP.
0844 now includes most UK Mobiles, i.e. Vodafone, O2, Everything Everywhere {Orange+T-mobile} and 3.

If you're with Orange, I've got a pocket landline (supplied by them) for free, that is a landline number going into a mobile.

Vodafone offer a similar service to their Small Business Customers. Only when the number and network are the same can you avoid the interconnect charges other suppliers impose.
