Getting a phone number for business (that can be forwarded to mobile?)

Hi
Does anyone know where I can go to buy a telephone number for my business that could either be forwarded to my mobile or to an answering service? I'm baffled by the whole thing and wouldn't know where to start?!
Thanks
Liz

You can get free 0844 numbers from Flextel that are free to divert to mobile.

You can get free 0845 numbers from lots of companies.

You can also get low-cost 0800 numbers.

Depends what you want/what your customers will put up with.

It's not immediately obvious, I agree. Not particularly cheap I'll concede, I use sipgate PAYG myself, cheap as chips but more fiddly to configue :-)

  • Just came across this thread as I am looking at alternatives to my current Skype number which expires on Monday.

Useful to see the other services mentioned here but I've just come across (www . net-telco . net - as a newbie I'm not allowed to post links) which offers free landline numbers, with forwarding (also free to some services) so long as one call per month is received. Seems too good to be true but they, of course, claim it isn't on their website. Not immediately obvious how they make any money but they do offer subscription services as well.

As you'll see the numbers include a wide range of area codes including 0118 which would be perfect for me. I'd be interested to hear any thoughts.
