Bathroom Cabinet Rusting

Either Amazon, Home Discounts Ltd or both are responsible for dealing with your claim.
Who did you buy it from? Who did you pay and how did you pay?
If you paid by credit card then, as the cost was over £100, your credit card company may also be liable and they may be able to assist you.
I suspect that this is a situation where you are going to have to be persistent. Amazon are probably trying to palm you off in the hope that you give up.
Don’t give up.
Establish who is liable and then tell Amazon or Home Discounts Ltd, or both, that you are not claiming under their A-to-Z Guarantee but under the Sale of Goods Act. Tell them that you are rejecting your purchase as not fit for purpose and that, if they don’t refund your money (or provide a replacement door and mirror), you will take further action and will if necessary issue proceedings in the County Court.
Make enough of a fuss in a polite but determined manner and Amazon may cave in.
Under our past orders on Amazon it says sold by Home Discounts Ltd but we have an American Express credit card set up on Amazon for quick payment (we buy a lot from them) and that is how we paid so it went through Amazon although I cannot remember if it said we were paying Home Discounts at the time of purchase. It is back in April. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

3.0 out of 5 stars Croydex anton stainless steel cabinet 25 Sep 2012
By Jerseybrum
Amazon Verified Purchase
Product arrivred on time , poorly packed, glass shelves were loose and rattling around inside.
This cabinet is not stainless steel, it is made from wood possibly MDF, with a stainless steel finish.
Otherwise product nice enough0 -

Yes I have read that comment about it not being stainless steel. The exterior is stainless steel anyway but even so I would not expect the mirror to rust. These cabinets are sold in John Lewis and I am sure if I had bought it from there it would have been refunded/exchanged without any problem. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I've just sent the following email to Amazon in the hope it will elicit a response.
Dear Simona
Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid I cannot be understanding about being fobbed off after being sold a defective item.
I am not satisfied with your response to my complaint. The A-Z claim may have failed but as indicated in previous correspondence I am not claiming under that but under the Sale of Goods Act. I am rejecting my purchase as not fit for purpose and if you don't refund my money or supply a replacement mirror door then I will take further action and will if necessary issue proceedings in the County Court.
May I add that I have another full length mirrored Croydex unit in the same room which has not rusted and it was bought before the bathroom cabinet. Therefore the cabinet is defective.
Yours sincerelyThe forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I agree they shouldn't rust I have had so called stainless steel things in bathroom that rusted too abet after a year or so so I can only assume much of these products are not proper stainless steel but a inferior copy. Croydex is suppose to be a fair well respected company of bathroom products
Amazon or that 3rd party really should comply with sale of goods act0 -

Well, we paid for quality so did not expect this after less than six months. I am not letting them get away with it on principle. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I suspect the rust is actually 'black edge'. This is caused by moisture getting between the silvering on the mirror back and the glass. It will creep along the edges once started. At manufacture the edges of mirrors are sealed and it is the failure of the seal that allows the 'black edge'.
Nevertheless this shouldn't have happened so soon and is a fault. It may be helpful if you contact Croydex 01264 365 881. Product code is WC756105 if you continue be given the run around.0 -

Thank you. I will wait for the response from Amazon and then if it is not satisfactory I will contact them. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
My husband has told me to write this to Amazon which I have just done
I would also like to add that if you check our Amazon account, then you will see how many purchases we make from your company. We buy from Amazon because we feel we can trust you and to be honest I did not expect a response like this.
If I do not get a response from this email I contact your manager and let them know what your response is to your loyal customers..The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

Tesuhoha's contract is with Amazon/Home Discounts.
Croydex would almost certainly just refer her to Amazon/Home Discounts.
They might help on the basis of good will or protection of brand reputation but they are not under any legal obligation to get involved.
Tesuhoha should wait and see what response her latest emails get.
Good luck.0
