    Same

I just returned a (relatively expensive) gym top to a different store 15 months after it was bought - it was exchanged with a smile and an apology that it had happened. I had no receipt, and it was bought from an outlet store in Orlando, but returned to the regular retail outlet in Las Vegas. I also suspect this wouldn't have been quite so easy in the UK....
TBH I think it's just that Americans are more trusting and honest... have seen so many examples in the US of stuff like people leaving money on the bar while they went to the toilet, train tickets stuck in slots above peoples' heads which they leave there if they leave their seats, newpaper vending machines which opened fully enabling the buyer to take all the papers out if they wanted, baby changing facilities in department stores providing free nappies etc - in the UK they'd never do stuff like this this as some people would take the p - some chav would steal all the papers/nappies etc.

Really? I don't see that at all, I just think the US is far more geared up to trying to delight the customer than we are.

    A wind up of course

But I bought a pair of Armani jeans in Vegas a couple of years ago, I wore them a couple of times before a rip appeared in them.

I took them back about a year later with no receipt and they swopped them without hesitation.

Dont think that would happen in the UK

And it certainly wouldn't happen in Egypt!

No there's more to it than that (in fact some customer service I've experienced in the US has been appauling). It's more about trusting the honesty of other people even strangers eg the example about people leaving their money on the bar when they go to the toilet etc. I know some Americans who never lock their house (and they live in the suburbs, not in the middle of nowhere).

Maybe why Americans are sometimes seen as gullible when travelling abroad!

Can anyone help? I bought a shawl from a shop in Egypt and I am not happy with the quality, can I try to obtain a refund from the tour operator or is this illegal as they didn't charge me in the first place?

The same thing happened to me. I wrote directly to President Morsi and he said he would make it a priority to secure me a refund as soon as he is released from prison.

OP has also posted on the Credit Card board.

    I'm confused.

Who didn't charge the OP 'in the first place'?

    Charge her for what?

<<shakes head in amazement at the OP's thought process that the tour operator may be responsible>>

I bought a shawl from a night market in Goa and am not happy with the quality.
Can I try to get a refund from the tuk-tuk driver who took me there? :rotfl:
