Can anyone help? I bought a shawl from a shop in Egypt and I am not happy with the quality, can I try to obtain a refund from the tour operator or is this illegal as they didn't charge me in the first place?

your contract is with the shop in Egypt. Guess you would need to know what their returns policy is and see if it is worth the cost of returning.
As an example if you bought this in a shop in the UK you would have no rights to return unless it is faulty although some shops will have their own returns policy...eg with receipt in 28 days etc

Did yu not feel/see the quality before you handed money over.

I think I would chalk it up to experience and either pass it on as a pressie or give it to a charity shop.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Perfectly legal to ask them.
  • I would think it's a bit cheeky to ask them, surely you are responsible for checking you are happy with the quality before buying! It's hardly their fault that you bought something you didn't like.

    A wind up of course

But I bought a pair of Armani jeans in Vegas a couple of years ago, I wore them a couple of times before a rip appeared in them.

I took them back about a year later with no receipt and they swopped them without hesitation.

Dont think that would happen in the UK
  • This has got to be a wind up, how sad

I have a friend who for years exchanged his Levis 501s at JC Penney for new ones about once a year. ..I witnessed it a couple of times personally...I will have to ask him if he has actually purchased a pair in the last few years since I thought of this. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Same

I just returned a (relatively expensive) gym top to a different store 15 months after it was bought - it was exchanged with a smile and an apology that it had happened. I had no receipt, and it was bought from an outlet store in Orlando, but returned to the regular retail outlet in Las Vegas. I also suspect this wouldn't have been quite so easy in the UK....
