Being in canary wharf, central(ish) London, that chances are the area is surrounded by crack / heroine addicts. They are usually prescribed Methadone.
Canary Wharf is not a drug ridden area, think docklands warehouse apartments & city slickers. Waitrose is their supermarket. They also have a Hackett (other close one being Bond Street).

Canary Wharf is high end office blocks and luxury flats. It would not be the nearest point of call for crack addicts, unless they hold down jobs in banking or journalism (the two biggest industries there). It is also a shopping mall and patrolled regularly by security staff. Just because it has an East London postcode doesn't make it an inner city hell hole - far from it

From the NHS website it does appear that both Boots in the Canary Wharf area should dispense NHS prescriptions: http://www.nhs.uk/England/Pharmacies/NearestSearchResults.aspx?pc=E14+5DT
I hope that head office sort this out - I've always found Boots to give very good customer service so its surprising that this has happened.

i have to say, it would never even ocurr to me that a pharmacy would only do private prescriptions........ i've never heard of that before! it's be pretty annoyed about it too - regardless of whose fault it is (NHS or Boots), it's a really stupid situation to be in and i would be pretty frustrated!

Which pharmacy wants a collection of angry/panicked methadone addicts waiting in the line along with non addicts.

Ive seen it happen, however the NHS has become smarter, they have specific centres now for people with drug problems to collect their prescription.

If I were the Boots manager, in a drug ridden area, Id think twice about dispensing.

Not that I have anything against drug addicts, its just that Ive seen them all too often arguing and getting violent with pharmacy staff in the past.

This MAY be the case. I repeat MAY be the case but who knows.

Boots make a lot of money from handing out methadone-it doesnt usually make them aggressive or panicy-quite the opposite.Problem drug users have to use pharmacies too-not all areas have these special clinics.

Could it have possibly been that the girl behind the counter didn't explain the issue properly - or you misunderstood her (I've been there, in pain....doesn't do wonders for your concentration does it lol).

The only things I could come up with are:

    1) They didn't have a pharmasist on site at that time... or

    2) They didn't have your meds in stock - now that has happened to me, I use my local Lloyds pharmacy and a couple of times I've taken in scripts and they've either run out, and wouldn't have it in until the next day, or it's something unusual that they don't normally stock and have to order in...
