Boots in Canary Wharf & NHS prescriptions

Dont pharmacists have some kind of duty of care? I think they may be in breach here,so they should take it seriously.0

What exactly is the problem here? You went to (what I presume) is your closest pharmacy, only to be told that they don't deal with your prescription. What's wrong with that?
I once went into my closest dentist, only to be told that it's private and that I'd have to go elsewhere, I was so angry I wrote an ill-founded e-mail and posted on a forum!!!0 -
Today i went to the bakers-they refused to sell me a loaf,as they dont have a sign up saying "we sell bread to the public" lol..:D
Boots High Street Pharmacy=prescription
Bakers=Bread
And so on..its simple really..0 -

Doesn't mean they have a licence to dispense NHS prescriptions.
Unless you are suggesting that they should dispense them WITHOUT a licence, just because the OP needs her medicine? Or because they may have the word pharmacy in their title (which, incidentally, they don't).0 -
Asea, the Whetstone branch of Boots do not dispense NHS prescriptions either!
I can't understand why to be honest.....I just put it down to Whetstone being in what I call a "more expensive" part of London and that Boots probably make more money with the private prescriptions!

keep your hair on luv,its only a forum!! Take a privately prescribed chill-pill!!
"Just because the OP needs her medicine"...how dare sick people expect their drugs from a pharmacy..:rolleyes:0 -
Being in canary wharf, central(ish) London, that chances are the area is surrounded by crack / heroine addicts. They are usually prescribed Methadone.
Which pharmacy wants a collection of angry/panicked methadone addicts waiting in the line along with non addicts.
Ive seen it happen, however the NHS has become smarter, they have specific centres now for people with drug problems to collect their prescription.
If I were the Boots manager, in a drug ridden area, Id think twice about dispensing.
Not that I have anything against drug addicts, its just that Ive seen them all too often arguing and getting violent with pharmacy staff in the past.
This MAY be the case. I repeat MAY be the case but who knows.0 -

I have a dental practice.
I have antibiotics on the premesis which I GIVE to my patients as they only cost about 50p a course.
I could make a HUUUUGGE profit taking anybodies NHS prescriptions, charging the £6.95 or whatever, and giving out the tablets that are, in may cases cheap as chips, and back pocketing the NHS charge.
(And of course refusing to dispense the expensive ones)
But - I don't have a license to dispense NHS prescriptions - so I can't! I would quite rightly be done for defrauding the NHS - not to mention the patient.
To dispense prescriptions on the NHS YOU NEED A LICENSE.
To give out anything on the sayso of a bit of NHS paper is not only Fraud, but also against the control of drugs acts.
You cannot willy nilly go giving out prescription only medicines.
If they don't have a license to dispense, they may not even have a proper pharmacist on the premesis all the time. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
the control of entry rules no longer apply if the chemist opens 100 hours a week or more.
not all chemists have a licence to dispense NHS prescriptions and it is up to the local PCT to issue a licence to the pharmacy.
if that branch of boots doesn't dispense, then it means that there is an other phamacy in the area which does and had the licence first. you should have asked them where the nearest dispensing pharmacy was.0 -

Canary Wharf is high end office blocks and luxury flats. It would not be the nearest point of call for crack addicts, unless they hold down jobs in banking or journalism (the two biggest industries there). It is also a shopping mall and patrolled regularly by security staff. Just because it has an East London postcode doesn't make it an inner city hell hole - far from it0
