Vodafone shares

If I buy £800 worth of Vodafone shares next week will I Qualify for the big dividend payment because of the verizon deal, on the tv news it says that vodafone will give half the money to investors and the other half to re-invest with the city bankers and pension funds.

  • This will be a long term investment. Don't get any ideas this will be a get rich quick scheme.

I am interested in VOD shares as I feel they will be a good long term investment with growing income prospects. To be honest is £800 enough by the time you factor in fees and SDRT?

It's not a windfall, if you get a payout, the share price will drop to compensate, as will the yield, + extra complication, exchange rate fluctuations, tax/foreign divi implications, and costs selling the US share element cdi's. Re Growth, look at the past share price, flat as a pancake for a decade

most people have a phone already, and have done for some time, in a very competetive market.

And why do you think, after the disposal, they will have 'growing' income prospects? I think they will have falling income prospects.
  • Yes im registered with Exuiniti shareview with my other shares and maybe I can buy some vodafone or british gas or water company shares and there price is 12.50 per trade on a 1 off trade or 5.00 on "smartdeal" what I like is to buy some shares for long term say 10 years and get the dividend payment each year. Or do I buy government bonds or guilts maybe 5 or 10 year deal.

VZ income isn't VODs income, to grow VODs current income will be very easy since debt will be lower and they are targeting acquisitive growth.

The is a kind of windfall since we are selling VZ shares greatly above market value, this isn't yet fully priced in because the deal has yet to be completed and things can still go wrong in the meantime.

A windfall is a cert of significant proportions.

From where it is today, the market value of all the parts could go up, could go down, approved or not, toss a coin to guess which way. Market price can wander in the opposite direction many may expect, when and if it's approved.

    .

If it's a cert then it's not a windfall, a windfall is an unexpected income gain. Here the windfall comes from the fact that VZ is paying well over market value.
