Hi guys,
I'm going away to the US for a couple of weeks soon and the place I'm staying doesn't have wireless.
I'm taking my laptop and would like to be able to keep in touch with my friends and family here plus emails etc.
Is there such thing as a pre-paid internet dongle or would anyone be able to suggest something to help me?
Thanks so much

Virgin does a pre-paid dongle over there called Virgin2Go that you can buy from Best Buy among others. You need either a US address or a credit card registered at a US address, I can't remember which, before you can top it up that way. However you could buy at top-up voucher at the same time.0

Thanks Luci,
Do you know what the various top up amounts are or is it just more like suck it and see?
Thanks,

The top ups are here
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&fs=saas&saas=saas&st=broadband2go
However I can't find anything about the dongle and sim you could buy a couple of years ago.
Possibly Best Buy or Fry's out there can advise. Also T-Mobile USA do cheap sims and top ups for phones so possibly data too, but whether it would be good value for just a couple of weeks I don't know. See if there is a T-Mobile shop near where you are staying.
Is it a hotel or a residental address? There are bound to be places with free wifi nearby such as Starbucks or McDonald's.0 -

I'll be staying in a residential address, so just wanted to have access on my laptop. So will I need a dongle and just top up with the vouchers you've pointed me to?
Thanks,

The place you are staying may not specifically have wireless, but it may still have broadband via cable/ethernet? Have you checked? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Dongles are area and network dependent. WiFi is everywhere, you may hit lucky - just wait until you are there and evaluate the options as they arise.0
