O2 Tarif change only at next bill?

I am trying to change my O2 Tariff down so i can cancel my contract and pay it off. they won't action the change until my billing date and therefore if i want to cancel now and port my number, i will have to pay the 6 months remaining at the higher amount. I can wait and cancel at the end of the month, but i want my new phone now and not be tied into O2, and as i am heading to vodafone i need my puc number, sod it - i'll go to Orange

I am pretty sure that they never used to make you wait to change your tarif, i know other companies didnt used to, because i had a 'buy out' done by phones 4 u last time (i like this company though)

I wouldn't mind if i was trying to do something under hand or dodgy, but i'm not - i am trying to pay them for the remainder of my contract... oh i feel a snotty letter coming on....

has anyone else had this problem, do i just need to get a grip (as you can see from some other posts i do tend to fly off the handle sometimes!)
Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!

If i were you, i will setup a call divert to your new mobile phone rather than waste all the remaining contract duration that you've got since you have to pay off to them. This will get you more minutes if your new contract has no more minutes.
