Car Reviews

Any useful websites for reviewing cars as thinking of upgrading to a 5 door with more luggage space.

Can anyone recommend some good auction centres in Birmingham.

Thanks,

Garcon 6.

That's a really good website will have a look tomorrow, will become parents in October which is why I am looking into a family car definitely with more luggage capacity.
  • Auction house in Green Lane Walsall is suppose to be decent, you can see their stock online before the auction.

Although if you don't know much about cars I'd avoid the auctions, it's easy to get carried away and recently I've heard the prices have been getting close to private prices.

If you state your budget and annual mileage, you'll get some car recommendations from other members on here.

Usual suspect for average and above miles
    Skoda Octavia diesel

    Low to average miles
    Petrol Focus, Astra or Civic
    Something bigger
    Mondeo, Vectra or Avensis.
  • Volvo V40 when I became a parent. They haemoerrage (sp.) money in the first few years.

I reckon something like a Mondeo or Vectra (any large rep-mobile) is was you really need, a hatchback should do, but if you really need space go for an estate.
If you doubt this, then I suggest you go look at the boot space in one, guaranteed jaw dropper.

Most people think family car = people carrier, but unless you have 5 kids they're pointless and less roomy than a normal large hatchback. Plus because all the idiots go for the "wrong" types of car, they're also dirt cheap and there are enough out there to really take your pick of the best.

I looked at a 3 door and 5 door focus, They both had the same amount of luggage space. :)

Adding 2 extra doors doesnt increase the space. So your actally looking for a bigger car.. But bigger than what?

Although 5 doors makes life easier with a car seat, even with an isofix base in place putting a car seat in the back is a ball ache.

Thanks for the advice I have bought a Renault Meganne Coupe from the car auction before I definitely won't go over budget. Maybe an estate car would be a good buy I like the look of the Honda FRV just thinking of space.
