someone keeps dialing the wrong number

hi all, i have a situation, i keep receiving calls from a certain local person (not buisiness 1471 confirms local number), these calls have been increasing in volume form 1 every 2 weeks 2 4 or 5 every week sometimes 4-5 every day.

i can tell its an elderly lady, ive been patient, saying hello no youve got the wrong number again im sorry and hang up.

she called one day about 8 times in an hour one day and blamed me she got it wrong and got frustrated with me on the phone.

now its becoming late night calls she doesnt actually speak now, she just breaths down the phone, and 1471 confirms the same number everytime, i think she knows my voice and know she got the wrong number, but thats just making the situation more frustrating instead of saying sorry got the wrong number at least something is said rather than not you know!.

what can i do to block this number from calling us as its getting silly hours and silly frequency of calls.

Sorry to hear your problem. As I see it, you've got a choice between these three:
    • get a call blocker and block the number. That would cost £40 or so and may be more than you want to spend, but you'd have more control against spammers.
    • report the matter to your phone company. In a case like this, they can monitor and/or intercept your incoming calls.
    • if you have caller ID and can see the incoming number, don't answer the call and hope that she'll give up. I recognise this won't be much use overnight, though.
    Good luck.
  • another 2 today from the elderly lady, i have caller id but my phone display is a bit hit and miss especially when the battery is low.

    ill look into those options.

    thanks

Ring her back and offer assistance to find the right number. Perhaps a relative can put the right number on a speed dial for her so she only has to press one button. Or you could offer to go and do it.

I used to have similar from an old lady, when my son was a toddler. She eventually ended up just spending time talking to me,about being a mum and whatever else she felt like.Just turned out to be a lonely old lady who just wanted anybody to talk to.I felt quite sorry for her and she asked if she could keep in touch!

trouble is she girl is that she is somewhat hostile on times, i dont think she wants anyone to talk to, she want to get through to who she is trying to dial, ive asked to assist her in getting the number right by checking the number she has mine start with an 8 the number she trying to get hold of starts with a 6 and she get quite irrate on the phone when she does get me or the wife instead.

We had this problem at work many years ago when an elderly lady kept ringing the fax machine. A call to BT sorted it out as they contacted her direct.

If i thought they were doing it deliberately....

I would call her back and ask to speak to Martin. Insist she is Martin and stop messing about. You dont sound like a woman...etc etc..

Tell them you called Martins number, Tell them a number and make one up, When they get stroppy say its annoying isnt it.

    Hang up and redial... Repeat.

Or when their number shows up next time. Answer with.. police harassment office. The number you have called have reported you for harassment.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • You could try dialling the number she's trying to get through to and if it's a friend/relative gently explain the problem and ask them to have a word and sort it out?

Buy a new phone - one with built in call blocking, such as Panasonic.
