As there doesn't seem to be a thread for them I thought I would start one.
Currently they are the cheapest Electricity supplier in NI for DD customers but that could change as their price is only fixed up until the 30th Sept 2013.
I'm actually moving to them now. even though their price may go up at the end of the month, as they have no lockin period.
Just too fed up with the atrocious billing from Budget, and the fact that they charge more for DD then keypad customers.
Cheers, Des.

Let us know how the switch over goes - are you signing up as a DD payer? Do you have any credit balance with Budget? If so let me know your experiences with getting the credit back as others here have said it's difficult!
Do Electric Ireland insist on a fixed monthly DD or can you get a bill and just pay that amount like with PowerNI?Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34
Mortgage starting balance at Sept 09 - £127,224 on 30 year term. Currently balance approx £116,945 (Updated Jan '12)
Estimated MFD - [STRIKE]Sept 2039[/STRIKE], April 2031 (in progress!)0 -
Get a Keypad in with Budget, its free, and at least you know where you stand.0

You pay the full amount off with EI, it is not a fixed monthly DD.
I believe that for the cheapest PowerNI tariffs you need to pay by fixed monthly DD and not quarterly DD.0 -
Assuming all keypads are made equal, EI currently have the cheapest tariffs.Get a Keypad in with Budget, its free, and at least you know where you stand.

I moved to EI earlier this summer for similar reasons to yours. They were a bit slow to send out the paperwork/DD mandate but the switch occurred and my electricity kept flowing
If I have to jump ship again shortly it's no problem, but I won't be returning to Budget. I'm still awaiting the return of my credit balance from them and it's now over 10 weeks since I telephoned EI to start the switching process.0 -
Yes you have to wait on your credit cheque coming through from Budget, possibly up to two months, something to do with them receiving the latest meter reading they said - keep reminding them!0

I have toyed with the idea of getting a keypad, but I really don't want to faff about having to get credit all the time and typing in numbers. And the cheapest electricity with everyone apart from budget is for DD customers.
Budget are now on my 'under no-circumstances use them' category.
The recent DD of £900, plus their inability to set my dd amount to get close to my usage just f***s me off.

Thats exactly what I want, thanks!
This is exactly what I want too. Anything that allows me to pay for just what I have used is and is cheaper than PowerNI is good for me.
Just need to see what happens to their prices come the end of the month.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

Blimey they don't half make it hard to become customers, filled in the callback form yesterday, nothing, sent them an email this morning requesting a callback, nothing, phoned on the only available landline number I could find, promised someone would call back, still nothing!
You would think I was trying to get money from them and not give it to them!
Ended up calling their Dublin number (free for me rather than calling an 0845 number) no-one there could help apart from giving me the ripoff 0845 number to call.
So I gritted my teeth as I really want to get away from Budget and rang the 0845 number only to get through to the same Southern call centre !!!!!!!
So back to dialling the Southern Landline, and got through and gave our details, hopefully that is the start of our switch.0
