I called EI after hearing the radio advert indicating that they offer the lowest SME business rates. So, ignoring the fact that they recommended a tariff suited to 24hr use rather than office hours, they quoted me a 'deposit' (don't ask for what, I didn't bother asking) of £2400. This is for a 500sqft warehouse type premises. On probing the girl said that, because it was small, it would likely be only £600. I laughed and said "no chance".

I called EI last Friday to switch from BE, I wonder if my request will be blocked too?

Hope you get it sorted out soon Des; keep us informed!
    Regards, Robin.

Called to switch on a Friday and by Thursday of the next week had a welcome letter together with T&C's and price plan information through the door. I'm just about at the end of my 10 day cooling off period nw with them, so am expecting the DD mandate and customer number info to come through the door in the coming weeks ahead.

Seemingly budget objected to our switch 'by mistake'

So now we have to go through the whole switching process again.

    Not happy.

I'll be sure to only pay Budget at the rate I should have been paying EI for the electricity used in between the 2 switch meter readings.

    Cheers, Des.

And finally we are switched over to Electric Ireland, that was a headache! They better keep their prices the lowest for a while, lol.

    Cheers, Des.
  • Thanks for the info DesG. I've been inclined to change for a while and as Budget are increasing prices from 27th December I will be ringing these guys tomorrow. I also would welcome only being billed for what I actually use. I was nearly £90 in credit at my last bill from Budget.

See this post for new price info for Budget.

Yes I too have switched to EI. Took 6 weeks to get the DD mandate form but that came through with my customer number and I have registered for the online billing.

Any idea if they are putting up their prices too?

I think they are putting up the ROI prices in Jan as per this artice I found a number of months ago: http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/energy-and-resources/electric-ireland-to-freeze-prices-until-january-1.1550438

If this goes ahead then I would expect prices to increase in NI too. But there is no contract with EI so you can switch away if needed.

Sent my DD mandate back to them (88p via Royal Mail) to Dublin. I called up to check they got it about a week later when their systems were back up and running. They got it ok.

Now today I can see the DD appearing on my online banking list of DD's ready for the first bill; I am expecting the "meter man" to call towards the end of this month. When the first bill comes through the post I have to call back to get it added to the online account for which I signed up then all others will come through online with an email notification.

So far no major issues, I call their 0845 number from work so no issues there for me.
    Regards, Robin.
