Pc blowing my monitors?
Comments
-
Is it the case, that the edge monitor works on no machine or laptop, at all, in bios screen, in windows or in safe mode? using the same lead that's attached to the pbell monitor (assuming it's removable)?
Is there is only one vga outlet on all these machines? IE do any have an on board, and a video card too?
does the ebuyer machine have a standard vga connector?
have any of the vga cables you are using been trapped, or damaged
The EDGE IO monitor does not work on any other machine or laptop ( i have tried on my 2 machines, a freinds machine and my own laptop......still the same issue)
It will come on, then it goes blank DURING the boot up process. I have taken out the vga from the packardbell monitor, connected it to the EDGE IO and it still wont work.
I have also tried 3-4 different vga cables (that i know work) and still the same issue.
There is only 1 VGA output from the pc. It only has an inbuilt graphics card on the motherboard. There is no external or independent graphics card. Thats the same for both machines.
The vga cables seem fine. I have switched them around with the packard bell screen and they work fine, once they are used on the broken screens they wont work.

The goes blank during the bootup process is confusing things, if it's blank when the bios screen is displayed, ie a static, you've pressed a key to go into bios settings, and there there with one monitor but not the other, then it would appear that it's faulty, but it's unusual, and unusual for 2 to do the same.
Can't your mate have a look?!!

Yes i press the key, the monitor displays for a little while, but way before the windows login screen it just goes black. (the screen still has power ie. green light is on at the bottom).
If i press a key to enter safe mode or the bios set up, it will go black/blank before the pc loads into safe mode or bios.
Yea i agree its very unusual for two monitors to do the exact same thing. The EDGE IO was tested and said to be working before he sent it. Thing is he is based in London, and its a refurb anyway, so he said just chuck it in the bin lol
But im still puzzled why they both are displaying fine when i switch on and off (even if its only for 1 second) and also im confused how two monitors have broken in the exact same way.
Its also making me weary of buying another monitor in case it happens again...0 -
Can't think of anything else you could try, the fact it's happening on 3 different machines, with different leads, points to the monitor or lead, providing the test is done either in safe mode or bios screen.
Usually on a tft, you'd get a no signal error or similar.
If it's plugged into a anti surge socket, also take that out of the equation.!!

could possibly be that the PC doesnt support the native resoltion of the monitor. it will come come on in the first few second but as soon as you past post bios and the VGA takes over it doesnt support the native resolution.
is there a menu on the monitor where it maybe set to HDMi or DVI link only.
have you done anything to change the HZ in the graphic menu in windows.
set to 50Hz but should be at 60Hz.0 -

Yea it is plugged into an anti surge, i did think it could be an issue that i have 4 antisurges all connected together though?0 -

I can't access any menu in the monitor because of the face it keeps going blank
I tried what you said, it only let me go as low as 56hz, and i changed res to 800 x 600 but the EDGE IO still did the same thing. With the same vga cable that is working with the Packardbell.0 -

by menu in the monitor, i mean the monitor has a physical button to access sub menu's just like a tv for colour contrast etc. even though its blank, there is power to the menu.
im woundering if you have a onbourd VGA issue like drivers or failure of onbourd VGA chip malfunction, it could also be a bootmgr issue aswell.
have tried resetting your bios on the mobo, locating the C_MOS jumper and removing it (with pc unplugged from the mains) and then putting it back on the same pins it come from, or removing the battery from the mobo with power out from wall and waiting a few mins before you put it back in and boot back up, this will put the bios back to stock if you if you accidentally made a mistake or a new bios update muddled things up.
do you have a packard bell boot recovery disc?0 -
The OP states that the monitor WORKS on a KNOWN good computer. Can you confirm?
The OP states that the computer uses shared memory, confirm please?
If so, you need to set the BIOS up to not use shared or use a memory checker, or replace the memory, one sim at a time if needs be.
It would be rare for 2-3 monitors to have the same fault, I've fixed hundreds, and never heard of this, always video card/memory in the computer, so either the OP is getting confused, that monitors work in known good machines, or those machines dont have faulty shared memory??
If the invertor in the screen was broken, then no screen, if the flo tubes were faulty, then see a ghost image...
If people post with conflicting information, then it is very difficult to diagnose the fault. One post says they work on another computer, and another contradicts. Can you either eliminate the monitor fault; or say its a computer fault? Have you used a known good monitor on your computer? It seems strange that you have tried 2-3, and they all have a fault that I've not come across in 20 years. But memory issues in a computer are ten a penny, that cause monitor issues.0
