Hi,

Got a problem with my car, the drivers side seatbelt won't click in, so only option is to drive without seatbelt on, which is illegal and very stupid, Just spoke to the garage and the car is still under warrenty but they cannot fit me in till end of the week,

with the seatbelt being such a important safty issue shouldn't they be dropping everything to look at my car,

Thanks

PS if it's in the wrong place sorry!

Not sure whether they can fit it in in a couple of days or a couple of weeks cos your title and post contradict themselves

I wouldn't expect them to drop everything - their other customers are as important as you and may not take kindly to having their arrangements changed now.

Can you ask them if you can take the car in early as you can't drive it, and they can look at it when they can (possibly earlier than they say), and in return give you a courtesy car to use? My car was booked in on a Thursday but because I work away I took it in the previous Friday with no problems. They rang on the Tuesday to say they had looked at the car and it was ready to be collected.

Are there any other renault garages you can get to?

Have they offered any other suggestions?

  • I thought it was just our local Renault garage that could be wholly unhelpful in situations like this!!!

I would check round other dealerships if there are any first and if there is no joy there then go back to the origional garage.

Is there anyone you can borrow a car from? I only ask as we have had to do this in the past i.e. put my car into the garage for something trivial and got a phone call saying it wasn't safe to drive and we couldn't collect it until the following week!!!

Perhaps ask them if they have a demonstrator available?

I can see both points here - but as it is a legal requirement to wear a seat belt I think they could try a little harder to fix the defect for you.

Contact Renault UK and ask them to help.

You could go to a non Renault garage, I can't see it costing much for a replacement seat belt?

Any competent DIY person ought to be able to source and fit a replacement from a scrap yard. Many scrap yards will even fit things if you pay a little extra.

Sorry I didn't explain to well, it's not the seatbelt as such, its the clip that it locates in, so I can pull the belt accross but it's not being held by the clasp/catch (whatever it's called) this has electrics in it that sense if the belt is in and switches off the warning lamp and shuts the buzzer up! so it's not quite that simple....... plus it's still under warrenty!

    Thanks

I never liked Renault's much and like them even less after reading this. Who needs an alarm to remind them to put on a seat belt?
