clean my conservatory?

Will my conservatory take my weight??

The very top of the roof (the spikey bit at the top) is looking very mucky.

I've tried brushes etc from step ladder level, but I can't get enough purchase to get the dirt off.. I need to be up close with a cloth really..

Would it take my weight?

    Do not do it.

Go to B&Q and get a proper extendable brush handle. The one I got is fibreglass and extends to 3.5 metres.

I already have! - I've tried two different brushes and the power jet.. but it's really stubborn and stuck on.. need to be "up close" to it..

How on earth would that get clean?

Depends on the construction and how heavy you are I suppose. Mine is timber with double glazed roof sheets and I climb on it to paint the woodwork. I adapted a short ladder by attaching a wooden bar across the end which hooks over the ridge but that may not work if you have a decorative ridge.

If you have the space you could rest a long ladder against the sloping roof provided you can secure the end on the ground, or get someone to stand on it.

    it's at the oddest angle..

it's just a run of the mill upvc one aswell!

I am under the impression that you must be able to get on it somehow - after all - someone must of got on it to actualy put the top on it in the first place??

I can actaully reach the place I need to clean from a short step ladder and also out of an upstairs window, but I can't get enough force to shift the grubby bits...

are there any angled ladders you can get?

I know this is a money saving site but we get our window cleaner to clean our conservatory every year. He charges around £80 but that is all of it cleaned including the windows of course;) . Saves my OH falling through the roof or hiring an angled ladder :D .

I find I get sufficient downforce with a strong pole like the one I bought from B&Q and I do it one a year - the muck washes off quite easily.

I think when I've managed to get this initial "grime" shifted it will be ok to use poles etc.. it just appears the previous owners haven't cleaned it since getting the thing built!

If you do get access to windows you can get some stuff to put on the glass to repel dirt, I cant vouch if it works or not but I seen it advertised, think its meant to last about a year.

You can also get glass that does the above too but would be only advisable to have it fitted at the time of the conservatory
