This has been my worst year so far, I've had some nice prizes, but nothing like previous years. I really think that it is down to pure luck and the fact that there are so many more people doing it now. You've only got to see how many new members there are and how many post that they've had 'their first win', good luck to them, they deserve it as much as anyone, but it does lengthen the odds for everyone.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I used to feel all the luck wasn't on my side but now I just learnt to realise how many hundreds or thousands of names get put into a comp and somebody has to be drawn out at the end of the day. I've won some great competitions and at times I sit there thinking wow, how was my name drawn out. I also have this weird thing where I actually feel a win coming. I remember one week I had entered a few comps and I said to my family I felt a big win coming on this week. I got a WEM which was for a decent prize but I said to them no, I don't think that was the big one I think it is still coming. Then in the same week I had a phonecall and won some big VIP Man Utd trip. So I think the positive feelings you get do help.
I tend to enter comps last minute, don't know whether that helps or not, see other people who enter straight away and win so I doubt it.
I do also still get suspicious when I see the same persons name winning competitions on a regular basis, I will always feel that way as I know you will always have people who cheat constantly too.0 -
I think there are a lot more people entering comps now than there used to be and I think the more you enter, the more chance you've got in winning and if you don't enter, you've got no chance at all.March Wins

I haven't won much this year at all, I've had a couple of nice wins but all very few and far between. I've been comping properly for about 5 years and I've never had a 'big' win, never won cash, holidays, TVs, cars etc. I find it bizarre and, if I'm honest, a bit suspicious that certain people win huge prizes on a very regular basis.
I enter hundreds a day, I usually whip through the magazine dailies, I don't usually bother with the normal dailies unless Pepsi or something has something going on. I do it by end date, if I get too ahead of myself I'll go back to tomorrow's date to see if there's anything new there.
It's a good hobby but can be quite frustrating, I tend not to go in IWIWIW anymore.0 -
I think it is all just down to chance and luck.
It never fails to amaze me when the monthly "what have we all won in...." thread appears, and there are some people who have regularly won 20, 30 even 40 prizes in a month, and others who don't win a sausage for months on end! It seems so unfair cos most of us are pretty serious compers - I can understand not winning anything if you were say entering 10 a week or something, but I'd wager most here do 100+ a day?
Anyway I'd put myself somewhere between the two extremes. Most months I get 2 to 5 small wins, and I've had the odd (what I'd call) medium win too, but never yet won anything major such as cash or a holiday.
I don't do end date comping, I just go through the board in order each day. For most prize draws I wouldn't have thought it mattered if you entered the moment they started the comp, midway through or an hour before closing, everyone *should* have the same chance of getting their name drawn out!0 -
I can relate to this!!
I used to enter competitions a couple of years ago and was winning loads (Was loving it!) stopped for a while then started again this year middle of March time. In April I was winning a prize every week so thought it was going pretty well. but then since may I have only won one thing or nothing each month. Although to be fair in May I won an amazing trip to Cannes Film Festival and in July I won some tickets that cost over £300. but in august all I won was a book! but hey ho swings and round abouts!
I am now trying to avoid the IWIWIW forum because peoples winning is starting to make me green with envy!
I entered looooooads of comps last month so i'm hoping this month i will be lucky!
Fingers crossed everyone!0 -
Don't underestimate the time that can pass between comps ending and winners being drawn. I have had several wins that I only heard about 4-5 months later. I have often thought that if I stopped comping today (fat chance, totally addicted!) it would be about 6 months before I was sure that no more prizes might appear.
it is definitely about hope rather than expectation. Every day I hope to win but am still surprised and delighted when I do.0 -
I don't think it is a case of you being unlucky if you don't win; more like you are lucky if you do win.0

Totally agree with this - I enter hundreds of comps a day and have had extremes of luck ranging from winning 4 times in one day (different comps) to having a dry spell of 1 to 2 months getting nothing at all.
I've never won anything like a holiday or really large prize, my best prize so far has been £100 Next spending spree - but have got lots of little prizes like shampoo, dvd's, books etc to keep me going.
I think the key is enter as many as you can without sickening yourself and just enjoy the thrill when you get lucky.;)
