Problem with Firefox restoring session

On opening Firefox after booting up my PC, the following message was displayed on the one and only tab:

Well, this is embarrassing.Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page. You can try:
Removing one or more tabs that you think may be causing the problem
Starting an entirely new browsing session

There isn't the option to do either of the above-mentioned and the 'restore' button is greyed-out.

The version of Firefox is 23.0.1

There are many important tabs that I need to retrieve.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The tabs its on about are the ones you left open when you closed firefox last or switched off without shutting down properly.

Like have 3 websites open all at once, Thats the 3 tabs. Power the computer off and it will try to reload the 3 websites when you restart firefox.

    Just start a new session.

Do you not know the links to those tabs?

Have you tried getting them from "History"?

They were numerous and longstanding so can't remember them. I was working my way through them and closing them as I went along.

    I repeat.

Have you tried getting them from "History"?

There are various options within "History" that might help.

No, the details aren't in the browser history as most haven't been accessed for some time.

Any other ideas I could try?

Did you possibly save any of them to your favourites? If not and they aren't in history anywhere (and unless you cleared it they probably should be) then you are up that familiar creek without any sign of your paddle.

I don't really understand your problem.

If Firefox crashed, you would normally only lose currently opened tabs and they would normally be in History.

You should not have lost all your Bookmarks.

If you haven't accessed these tabs for some time, where were they stored?

How did you normally retrieve them before this crash?

    I understand the OP's problem.

If you have Firefox set to restore previously-opened tabs on startup, then they only show up in History on the day you originally opened them, and so if they've been there for a while, they may not be in History from the last month or whatever.

So the tabs might not be in the recent History, even though they would (on a day when FF is working) be shown as open tabs - hence no need to retrieve them; you just click on the tab.

Ok, I don't use that function so I am unfamiliar with it.

Where does Firefox get that information from?

It must be stored somewhere unless it is deleted when Firefox next opens and restored at the end of each session.
