Btw, my first "PC" was 8086 machine with (from memory) 4MB RAM (if not less) and a 320MB HDD. It had to run DOS 3.1 (I think it was) as anything newer came on compressed floppy discs that it couldn't read.

    Can't remember the processor though.

sounds unlikely, im not sure of any machine that old capable of using 320mb hd.
4MB is also unlikely, usually 8086's will only have 128-256k

oldest pc i had was a 286 IBM with a 10mb hard drive and 1MB ram

That's what I was thinking, that sort of spec would be around the 486 era I think? My first Windows PC was a Cyrix 686 PR133+ @ 110Mhz (original Pentium rival) with 8MB ram, 850MB hard drive and Windows 95 which is just slightly higher spec.

Someone brought in a magazine from 1984 which had a review of a new 80286 based IBM machine which was the Rolly Royce of computing at the time and would set the standard for the next few years:

The spec was an 80286 processor running at 6Mhz, 512k ram, 1.2MB 5.25in floppy drive and a 20MB hard drive which cost an eye watering £4,281 plus the cost of a monitor, operating system and VAT. That's a lot anyway but substantially more in 1984.

that looks simlar to the one i had.

cant remember the exact year, but it must have been around 86, possibly abit later.

When I was at uni, and they were moving campuses and chucking all sorts out, I skip dived an original IBM PC. Replaced the power switch and made a killing on ebay :D
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I have a Philips CDi 210 dated around 1991- capable of internet use, and an Amstrad 2386/20, with Windows 3.11 installed, capable, but not used, circa mid '90's? Also Commodore 64-, Atari ST, Amiga, Amstrad 464, etc.

My earliest computer/console is a Commodore 3000H pong type machine from 1978, and apparently rare as hen's teeth, the earlier 2000 version is more common, due to the bilingual language used on the 3000H console (German/English).

Youngest has an Apple Imac G4 from circa 2002, purchased it late last year and it works perfectly.

He also has my parent's old desktop from circa 2002/3 and has upgraded the ram and the processor...works like a demon now, it had always been a pretty naff desktop even from the get go.

Plus, he is working on getting my old Dell from 2006 ish going....and building his own gaming PC too.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
