  • Let's agree to use the word "experienced". If I weren't I wouldn't sign up to anything without having an even more careful look at what I was signing up for. I did just that for months before my first mobile contract.

I sympathise with your friend and am disappointed to read posts to the effect that your friend has only got themselves to blame. I am a BSc and MBA graduate and have been involved in preparing and administering multi million pound contracts in the construction industry for 30 years and I too was taken in by this scam. I was unaware that I had contracted to receive 'services' from TMTI Ltd until they had taken money from my bank account at 6 monthly intervals for 18 months - I agree that busy people can easily miss deduction of small sums from their accounts (a typical month will involve several hundred transactions on my account). At no point did I receive any communications from TMTI Ltd and I now understand that my account details were provided without my knowledge by my mobile phone provider. I do not understand how the onus rests with me to opt out of a service which I did not request and for which I have not been provided with details.

I have discussed this with the fraud team at my bank and they have recovered the monies on my behalf. I advise others in a similar position to do the same. In the event that TMTI Ltd attempt to pursue this matter I am confident that I will be successfull in robustly defending my position. I would welcome the opportunity to dispute this matter on the basis that it may establish a precedent for others in a similar position and help stop this iniquitous practice.
