Home heating oil delivery error

Looking for advice please. Yesterday we had 500 litres of oil delivered to our house in error. We had not ordered the oil and to gain access to our oil tank the driver damaged a 6 foot wooden fence/gate that was not only bolted shut but also padlocked! I have spoken to the oil company and advised them of what happened and of the damage that the driver made gaining entry to my garden......their response was £18 discount of the cost of the oil!!! Just wondering where I stand with this especially regarding how he gained access?
They also said they could come and remove the oil but this too concerns me as I am uncertain how much oil was in the tank before they came yesterday and I only have their word that they put 500 litres in?

Welcome to the forum.
There have been several threads about delivery of oil to the wrong address. IIRC the situation is that you have to pay, or allow the oil to be removed.
The damage to your gate is simply a matter to solve with the supplier. Write with a claim and take civil action in the small claims court if they fail to pay for the damage.0 -
Get a contractor round and get a written quote for the repair. Send it by LETTER to the oil company asking for their cheque by return of post.
The oil. Do you want it? Did they leave a delivery ticket? If you want it, then check the price per litre was acceptable for that day (ie not significantly higher than you would have paid elsewhere) and pay.... if you want.... or....what you can do if you received unsolicited goods. The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations say you have a right to keep goods delivered to you that you didn’t ask for.You have no obligation to return the goods to the trader or allow the trader to collect the goods. However, it would be reasonable for you to contact the trader to explain what has happened and give them a chance to collect the goods from you.
