Iphone 5 dock converter

I switched to just using a 30pin Bluetooth connector that connects to my bose sound dock was about £12 from ebay (search for "bluetooth iphone dock connector")..- that way can use the bluetooth capability of the iphone \ ipad or many other Bluetooth device to play the music over a short distance..
can sit with which ever iDevice in my hand and have it stream the music just fine.. granted doesnt charge it at the same time, but avoids compatibility issues (plus mine was an earlier dock prior to the usb power change around).. so it didnt affect what I had anyway..
Something like this?

Hmm... not a bad idea... then anyone no matter what phone they are could play music via bluetooth in my house?? (party upcoming, people have Iphones all styles, Samsungs, blackberrys...)0 -
Sorry, are you talking about a dock or a convertor?
If I buy new whole docking station (non apple, but with the Iphone 5 connector) it will still pop up or are you talking just if I put the conventor into my old dock (which is non Apple)?
Thanks
It is the bit with the iPhone 5 connector that has to be genuine or licensed. So a 30 pin non licensed dock with a genuine 8 pin converter wont trigger the message but a genuine 30 pin dock with a non-licensed 8 pin converter or a non-licensed 8 pin dock would trigger the warning.
The iPhone 5 connector itself contains a chipset which apple appear to be able to tell if they are genuine/ licensed or a 3rd party copy. This exists in either straight through connectors/ docks as well as 30pin to 8pin converters.0 -
They probably wont do a screen protector for you. Ask around your friends, usually some one is good with them. I am for my immediate circle
The way I do it, is remove the old one, and clean the screen. I use either spec wipes, or a spray with kitchen roll (more rigid stuff, not like bog paper stuff) then clean again with an antistatic wipe to remove all bits. Don't breathe, un peal the "1" side about half way down, and place on screen making sure that it will likely fit all the way down. Don't worry about bubbles. Only worry if it's something on it causing bubble, and at that point it's useful having some needle nose tweezers to pick off from the screen protector (not the phone screen!). Once side "1" is down, then hold protector on screen whilst you peel "2" off. After that use a credit card (or sometimes you get a card with the protector) to push out any bubbles and firm down the edges.
Oh added to say: In the case of iphones with middle buttons I usually unpeal the side of "1" down to the bottom, take it across the bottom and let the side fall down so I actually reverse doing "1" (bottom, instead of top) as it's easier to match the button hole that way.
In regards to the dock, I really don't know. The lightning adaptor will cost £30 (or so) so if you can get a decent cheap dock for that, or not much more than that it might be worth selling the old, buying new, but if the ios7 thing comes in the cheap ones will be the ones hit with it. So long as it still works, fine, but apple does have this habit of disabling things on updates.
I hate to say it, on MSE, but if you plan on keeping the phone for a fair time, and will in future replace with another one (5/6/whatever) then perhaps a solid investment in a decent dock would be beneficial. If only to stop the balancing act with an adaptor that looks messy in the first instance.
I don't mean bose prices, but perhaps something from a more branded name. Trouble is, no one knows, as so far I don't think there has been problems from outside apple made lightning connectors. When it was first out there was a lot of talk about apple being able to program through ios to not use anything but official.
Thus said; if you are looking for a lightning dock, there are a few on apples own page, and if they mess around with those, that they're selling themselves, that'll look really good
http://store.apple.com/uk/ipod/ipod-accessories/speakers#! as always with apple, look around for the exact models elsewhere to see if you can get better prices/deals.
I'm not trying to push you to pay apple prices, but surely if they sell them themselves and then turn around to disable them at some point in the future there would be some come back. It's just maybe a consideration.0 -
Yes, I was looking at the Phillips ones... Didn't know Apple sells them too. They've been recommended on a review site.. And I thought the price is not too bad.
I will look how the old docks are doing on Ebay and decide... maybe the bluetooth thingy for £6 won't be bad short term solution if I cannot get any money for my dock.
I don't use it much so don't want Bose or anything... I only use it for parties really or if at home alone.. My OH doesn't like pop music0 -
Yes thats exactly the type, the range is upto 10m.. but it saves having a wobbly connector, and the iphone can be used as a 'remote' to pick what you want..
as its bluetooth it only pairs with one device at a time - so if u want to switch you sometimes have to disconnect \ turn off bluetooth on the first device then click to connect from the second one.. Its not quite as easy as 'Airplay' standards - but that wouldnt work across apple \ android devices.., So for less than £10.. It saved me buying a completely new bose sound dock ...Something like this?
