LG, direct drive means that's the moratorium is attached to the drum direct, no belt. So less noise and vibration. They're a rated and have a high capacity drum. Mums one is 11 years old with no problems, friends one is 4 years and no problems either. I've just taken delivery of one for my new place .0

My Bosch has preset programmes but once you've selected one, you can adjust temp and spin speed (these then have an impact on duration) - and there's a couple of quick programmes too.
Also a quick wash button and a really handy sportswear setting (great for trainers!) Assuming we have the same machine. I've got this one and managed to get a free 4 year warranty from bosch, £81 cashback from bosch, £12 cashback from topcashback and £60 off :money:
I don't think they are still doing those offers though.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

thanks, that sounds great, do you know which model that is?
I'll have a look but it's a few years old. I had a quick look on Currys and the newer ones still seem to have exactly the same controls.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I wouldn't worry about paying extra for something with loads of programmes, in my experience, most people use very few of them. I also think that £500 is a lot to pay for a wahing machine, especially when you're just starting out.
I've just this second clicked to buy this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1292563.htm
You're right about the cycles I think, I only really use the general purpose 60 degree wash and less often the 40 degree one. I'm sure many people just spin the dial to the same cycle nearly every time out of habit.
However, £500 isn't a lot to pay for an automatic washing machine. In fact, that's about the same figure for what they cost in the 80s and money was worth more then too. Ok, it's still a lot of money to many people and certainly there are less costly machines, but from what I've found, it's a realistic starting figure for a good machine that will last - provided it's from a decent make. Budget machines just aren't made from good parts and unless you're a very light user, they tend to have disappointing life spans.0
