O/S Daily Tuesday 3rd September 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Usual dash for a work day. Tomorrow is next redundancy consultation meeting so need to do lots of preparation for that today.

Venetian style liver and cauliflower mash for dinner, cold omelettes for lunches. Meal plan done for the rest of the week because budget really isn't pretty for this month. I need to get some stuff on ebay and try and make some money.

Julie - the tip with the mattress and duvet works underneath it too to firm it up. I put in on top when I come out of hospital and am "delicate" or underneath just to make our old mattress feel more comfortable.

Jules - am really glad your HR are being so good.

    Congratulations to young Mr Moorhen!

Better get going so will leave with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Good Morning x

Thank you for all the kind wishes. Im on my third day of being in a London Hospital and it is a it of a culture shock as Im sharing a room with a very eccentric and loud lady. Anyway it makes the time pass quicker. Im looking a bit like Frankensteins Monster with my bolt but hopefully it will only be in a few days

Molly Dog is very sad and Poppy is sat by the front door waiting for me - I wish I was back home but it is only a few days. I see some very poorly people here so really thank my lucky stars!

    Hugs x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Molly, hope you are soon on the road to recovery, it sounds awful. How much longer do you have to stay in hospital?

I've had a 'difficult' couple of days, just with the stress of getting everything ready for school next week. The girls squabbling all the time really doesn't help either . I haven't been sleeping and that is a bad trigger for me so I have to be careful. But I feel a lot brighter today so Woo-Hoo :j.

Just getting hubby off to work, he's wearing his new 'Duck Dynasty' t-shirt which says "Work Hard, Nap Hard" which if you knew him you would see how appropriate it is. I'm trying to persuade him to grow a proper beard too like the men on the show but he thinks he will end up looking like a tramp. I'm very fond of beards on men, I find them very appealing. :santa2:(Only beardy smilie I could find :rotfl:)

Oh well, OS wise I shall be flying this morning, then I have to pop to the supermarket with eldest DD for some milk......I haven't had a cup of tea yet!! The house doesn't look too bad so I can just try and keep on top of it now. This afternoon, I go to see my lovely friend for a coffee. She's signed off work with vertigo at the moment and worried about her job but she can't help being ill and she certainly can't work as she's not allowed to drive until she's better.

That's all for now, gentle hugs to all who would like one.
    Cheers m'dears x
  • Good Morning all, Hope you soon feel better and are up and about quickly Molly41
Well its back to school time for lots of the little ones this morning .My youngest DGS Mikey starts back into Year five today and it only seems five minutes ago he was starting at nursery.Time certainly seems to be whizzing round at the moment
My favourite day today as its a Tuesday so its pub quiz night. We do have such a lot of laughs and enjoyment at our quiz's and its excellent value for a couple of quid including supper.
DGS Ben Jack and Henry don't start back to school until Thursday and it will be the start of Ben's final year before Uni, fingers crossed.
Weatherwise it looks like its going to be another super day ,the sun is up already and the River Medway from my window is looking very nice and clear, a good sign.
Well time I got a wriggle and the kettle on
I hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers chums

  • Morning all!

I'm glad you're OK, Molly - we've not met but I've seen all your friends here cheering you on. I hope your health problems are soon resolved and you're home with your animals.

Well, yesterday Willie Wonka went to see the vet who diagnosed cystitis. WWonka has antibiotics and a painkiller to clear it up and I'm £30 down. I don't grudge it but I'd still rather have it in my purse than the vet's till! The good news is that William's feeling a lot better and has been using the loo rather more normally so I'm hoping to let him back out tomorrow.

It's cleaning day here so I'll be out all morning to let Cleaner A get on with what she has to do. I'm going to go up and see my seedlings - hoping the turnip and cauliflower might have sprouted! - and then head into town for my usual treats of an expensive coffee and then sushi for lunch. The scales have not been kind to me this week and I've gained weight so should really skip the coffee. The jury's out on that one!

Hope everyone has a good, OS day :)

    Morning All

Couldn't sleep so have done a few 'quiet' bits, DD is off today so will try not to wake her.

    Congrats to Master Moorhen!
Molly- Hope you're up and home soon.
Jools - Sounds like a good plan to get you back to work, just remember to take it slowly.

Had a phone call from EA yesterday asking if the daughter of the folk interested in the house could come to measure a few things (her parents live down south and she is living locally), ended up looking after her 2 children while she did what she had to do. Looking good though, she is sure her parents are going to offer. Fingers crossed please. Also had another call from EA asking if a previous viewer can have another look!

Work last night was ok, one of the girls I work with has grown up children and one of them has not been seen since Thursday night, a really worrying time, can't seem to stop thinking about it. The family have issued lots of fliers and it is all over FB and local news. Hope he is found soon.

Anyway, another damp day here, just hope it is dry enough at break times for the children to go out. Washing will go on the airers, house reasonably clean and tidy. Haircut for me after work and then evening work. Take care. XX

Yipeeeeeeee school for DS2 today, ds1 starts back tomorrow!! Washing on line, packed lunch made and as soon as I have delivered to school we will be spending the day clearing the garden. Making two new veggie beds, mowing lawn, planting onions, then the dreaded clearing of weeds. Pulled all my cabbages yesterday as they were being eaten by slugs and caterpillars, so decided to salvage what we could. Have cut up and washed til clean and then frozen, so will steam it when needed.

My sweet corn were tiny, about an inch long and only 2 on 4 plants, so I composted them which will leave more space for the leeks and Brussels. Harvested loads of rhubarb, courgettes and tomatoes yesterday too which are now freezing. Tea tonight will be stretched as have friend and her two children staying over. Planning on hm chicken Kiev and chips with salad.

Will make some jelly with fruit in for pudding as kids always want pudding! I have a scout planning meeting tonight and ds2 is back in karate! Hugs to all unwell or with poorly animals. Mine are currently sleeping beside me on the sofa!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Bright blue sky with beautiful sunshine, but a definite nip in the air here this morning. Washing on the line.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potatoto, and beans/veg, tonight we will be having pork chops etc.

Work was busy but not as manic as we thought doing the job that I was doing but the other job (which I will be doing today) was horrendously busy - so I could have a manic Tuesday instead of it Monday! It will make the day go quicker though.

DS1 seemed to enjoy college yesterday although it was all filling in paperwork etc and it seems that's all they will do this week - he doesn't have a definite timetable yet either but has been told they should know definitely by the end of the week. DS2 is going to spend the day with my parents - so I have to leave to go to work earlier than normal to take him to their house as they live the other side of town but it's not far and will be nice for him to spend some quality time with them before he goes back to school on Thursday.

    Keep safe and well x

Chilly but bright here this morning, fish fed & hubby's off to work soon, I'm collecting him later as long as the car starts, it's not been used for 6 weeks. DD has passed me fit to drive, lol, she seems to feel I have sufficient brain power, I'm still weak, but I drive an auto so it's easy.
Today I shall iron 2 polo shirts, make a batch of chicken & rice for hubby's lunches and strip the bed as I didn't do it yesterday and I'll try the duvet under the bottom sheet to see if that is more comfortable, I'm not as sore today, but that's because I'm back to sleeping 5 hours instead of 8, so less time to stiffen up.
Molly, lovely to hear from you, sorry you aren't having a restful time of it, hopefully you will be home soon. It reminds me of when my Mum was in hospital, a mixed ward, the gentleman in the bed opposite tried to strangle her repeatedly as she wasn't covering her hair and face the way he felt she should be. I complained a couple of times but got nowhere, it was passed off as 'cultural differences' he also had dementia. What did finally work was me punching him 4 times in the head the next time he attacked Mum. Well I don't think it stopped him, but his family got him moved to somewhere safe. I'm not really a violent person, but sometimes need must.
    Have a good day everyone
    Hugs Hester
