Ugh, "reputation to uphold"...I absolutely hate that phrase whenever I hear it used because it inevitably means the individual involved is as deep as a puddle and fairly often as boring as one!

Horse riding can be an expensive outlay but once you have the stuff, you have it!

Well today is not going particularly as I'd planned; a big order was meant to be coming through and it was only about half the size I was expecting. Not to mention I've quite a lot of work to do but feeling decidedly unproductive.

gallygirl: I'm not convinced my wife has a very good reputation to uphold on here.

I suppose everyone can be somewhat "shallow" in some respect or another.

HBS: I'll not be drawn into that argument as I do not like the phrase either. ;)

As for horse riding, son seems rather taken with my cousin's horses - wants to see them again today.

Oh, that's a bit pants regarding the order!

Do you have little "bits and pieces" you can do instead of a big job? I find that works for me when I'm feeling unproductive - e.g. at home I will do a few minutes' cleaning at a time instead of deciding to clean a whole room!

I definitely think we can all be shallow in our own ways :) I can't be bothered with women who wear a ton of fake tan and not enough clothes but that was the waitress uniform at the bar we went to last night (sports bar - ick - but 100 chicken wings between 4 of us for £25, and delicious too - yes please!) and the girl serving us was well-spoken and pleasant. I just felt sorry for her being made to look trashy for her job.

Sounds like you have a budding jockey or showjumper there ;) could he have a go on a horse or is he still a bit little? Could you have a go too? ;)

I'd say that he also thoroughly enjoys going off to places with his dad.:) With good weather forecast, maybe it's time for more picnics Alex.

No pun intended (;)) but if you can't rein in MrsK's spending then let her get on with it. If she's spending actual money then presumably it simply delays the date for the new BMW. If it's on credit and she's foolish enough to pay interest, then her loss (literally).

Do you write lists? I'm a great believer in writing things down and ticking them off. It really helps to feel you've actually achieved something.

I can see that someone might want to widen experience and build a CV but if Mrs K is wanting to leave her job just because she doesn't like one contractor then that's very foolish. Does she imagine there wont be difficulties at other jobs?

What are the plans for LittleK for September? Does he go to nursery ever day then?

I'm disappointed in all honesty. Waiting for the phone call caused me a great deal of anxiety, no sleep last night only to find they only wanted the usual amount.

Yes, got some "bits and pieces" done - mainly listings on eBay and started a restoration project.

I'd be rather worried if you could be bothered with women with fake tan and few clothes, HBS. ;)

He has sat on a small pony and yesterday cousin and I walked around a small area with him on the horse. Not scared at all but cousin reckons he's too young to start formal lessons, said maybe in a year (she's got a riding school). As for me having a go, well I know the rudiments of how to ride a horse and I suppose if it's something he gets into I'm more likely to get involved than his mother.

He does like going places with me, one of his favourite activities is "playing trucks" - that is picking up furniture for restoration in my LR with a trailer. He's hoping one day he'll get to drive, I'm hoping one day he'll have a proper job. As for picnics, we're going on one after a walk on Monday if the weather is OK.

I don't really know if my wife owes any money or not. However, I doubt it as she hates the fact I managed to get myself into debt.

I'm a prolific list writer when I am productive. When struggling to get on with things, writing lists and seeing everything I've got to get on with in front of me only serves to make me anxious.

This particular contractor for whom work is ever increasing has a terrible working relationship with my wife. He made working life so difficult for Mrs. K. that she walked out on one of his jobs and ended up with a warning from her current place of work. She was hoping for a promotion but it seems that she is being bypassed. Admittedly, the information I get is only her side of the story.

We hadn't any plans for our son to attend nursery for any longer than he currently does from September. However, we are going to view a localish primary school tomorrow afternoon.

    Thursday 15th May, 2014.

    Dear Diary,

After a bad day and what looks to be another sleepless night thinking about the school visit tomorrow, I can't say I was particularly pleased to be home alone this evening as Mrs. K. decided her brother was the best person to talk about jobs to.

On the plus side (there's got to be something, eh?) after reading someone else's diary I realised I'm lucky to live in a place where we have never had to think about locking the door. Also, I've managed to get a couple of things listed on eBay, so hopefully totals should be coming down a little by the end of the month. Looking forward to being debt free and the profit made from restoration projects going toward something other than money I'd already spent a long time ago.

    Summary:
    +£30.00 Music Teaching.
    -£0.00 NSD (for me).

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

    Dear Diary,

    Alex.

What's worrying you about the school visit Alex? Little K is three so presumably you're just looking at him going there because they have a nursery provision. So potential 2 years, for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week and it'll cost you nothing above your taxes. You aren't making a commitment to him going there for Primary schooling. You might not even get him in there longer term if you don't live in catchment. What are you worrying about? You don't even need to leave him there for two years if you've any reason to be dissatisfied and you can find another place that's better. There's also usually the option to go private and pay a 'top-up' to the private fees above the 15 hours of state provision.

Jus trying to save you a sleepless night.:)

maman: Our son will go to school in September 2015, so in only just over a year's time. Therefore, we are more looking for when he starts school in 2015 for currently he is quite settled at the nursery he currently attends. Would he be better moving to one attached to a school?

If we like the school, rated "outstanding", he may go there for nursery to get used to the place but we are looking at this school and another with a potential of sending him to one of these. Furthermore, there is my old prep school and another which is cheaper (but 20 miles away) to consider. I've been told we can send him to wherever we want, even if it is state maintained, so have looked at everywhere within 20 miles of our house.

I do not wish to get into another state / private debate, already had one of those this week with my cousin and her husband - they send their two children to state schools but cannot afford anything else. However, they are both very happy with the education their children have received.

With DD she went to the nursery attached to the school, but when they transferred to the Primary school, the kids went in different directions, some to the school, a couple moved out of the county, and some come in from other nurseries.

If you do like the school that has the nursery attached I wouldn't personally move Little K, (unless anything drastic happened), as by going into the school, there be others that have come in.

I think my primary school had a nursery attached, but I was very happy at the nursery I attended so Mum and Dad didn't move me - they saw no point.

Hope the school visit went well :)
