Oh wow, I'd never heard of it!!!!0 -
Obviously never had a son who was into Ocarina of Time computer game! I'd never heard of it before either!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

These are the most common ones I've seen in primary schools. A little less excruciating than recorders;) What they do is allow children to make music together with very little cost outlay. And they're fun!!!0 -
But why? None of us know what's around the corner for us, cherish each day.:)
I'm very anxious about the future, I suppose it's a fear of the unknown.Alex, not posted on here for ages but do read it avidly.
Firstly, I think you're doing fantastically on the debt front, Mrs K may not be on board at the moment but at least you are plodding on and although it may seem a drag think how you will feel when your are debt free. AND the way you are going it won't be long :j:j:j
But what I really wanted to say was if Little K does go to one of the small local schools don't worry too much about having two years to a class. When we moved to Norfolk from Surrey my son (who was 7) went from a school that had at least two classes to a year (about 400 children in the school) to a school that had 92 children and two years to a class. At first I was a bit concerned but it actually pushes them. For example he is now 10 and in year 5 but they are actually doing year 6 work. Of course I'm sure some of the children might struggle a bit but if they are bright I think it actually helps them.
Also this school seems much more personal, the teachers know all the children by name and always have time to talk to you. And they have far more things going on after school, loads more trips etc. AND lots of different music lessons. My son is learning to play the ocarina and I'd never heard of it :rotfl::rotfl:. Mind you he's not really musically minded so I don't think he will be the next Andre Rieu (shame).
Anyway I'll pop off again now, but will keep reading and may stick my oar in again!!!

Boo: Thank you for your post.
I cannot wait to be finally free of the debts. On the subject of Mrs. K., we have had quite a positive conversation today. However, yesterday we did spend A LOT of money shopping.
Mrs. K. wishes to explore the possibility of sending our son to one of the village schools. As for the school your son goes to, that would be a rather big one around here, most have between 30-70 pupils. However, the second closest to us has just 25.
As for ocarina playing, I don't play it myself and have never actually heard it being played but it likely sounds better than beginner strings.Obviously never had a son who was into Ocarina of Time computer game! I'd never heard of it before either!
I've heard of an ocarina but not of an Ocarina of Time...2018 totals:

Didn't know you played a musical instrument, HBS? It seems there are no limits to your talents.

Aren't some made out of clay?
I presume they are very easy to learn also and would not require specialists? My son has told me violin is "easy" because he can play "G", "D", "A" and ... wait for it the "E". Yes, all the open strings... with the bow and it's every bit as "excruciating" as you can imagine. :rotfl:2018 totals:

Yes, they are traditionally made of clay but the plastic ones are very popular (and cheap) in primary schools.
LittleK sounds quite the child prodigy. Nicola Benedetti eat your heart out!!;)
Haven't heard much of the parents lately Alex. Are they well? Are you still all up for he weekly beef?0 -
Most musical instruments are worth the initial pain for the end gain. So many adults regret not keeping up playing, especially the piano. Ocarinas can sound great!
On the debt front well done. I know someone who left here to go to another forum which was all about debt, and they've ended up in a terrible state due to the webmaster threatening them after a disagreement, really appalling stuff. If you want proper advice, please consult a legal professional. I am not one! Thanks.0 -
I haven't played for a while - and I'm not very good - but I love my ocarina, it's a clay one
Thank you for the compliment Alex, I'm a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none though! The only thing I've proved myself fairly good at is cheer/coaching!
Glad you and Mrs K. have managed to have a good talk, it's a hard thing to do but it does clear the air a bit. Hope you manage to find a school you can agree on!
Aw bless Little K. He sounds better at the violin than I was mind you - Mum used to make me practise in the shed...
