Hello Alex! Wow! you are doing really well and I am a bit jealous of you because I think you got the DFW bug or had your LBM and I am yet to have the LBM :-/
I am feelings sick since this morning just thinking about how many days of the week I went out with my friends partying, dinning etc, etc..
Anyway, I think I need to come more often to these forums...
Regards,
No debts 🙌0 -
Hi Alex
I think you and Mrs K did brilliantly and your plan to buy a car and sell it for a profit is definitely very MSE! A great idea :TProud to be dealing with my debts!

Sorry for my incoherent responses this evening, I have only just sat down Mondays are extremely busy for me at the moment.
Iwillsucceed: Thank you. Certainly looks that way at the moment.I don't feel I can criticise anyone for not having their LBM. However, by the fact you are on here you are making progress, I'm sure.
Rose: Thank you, as it's something both my wife and I are knowledgeable about, we may as well have a go.2018 totals:

Well done you on passing up the brand new car! Definitely go with the older car and make some money from it
I would if I had the know how! My best car so far has been the 12 year old Volvo we currently have (no one more surprised than me!) we bought it as a stand in because the old one broke and we couldn't afford anything newer or more expensive! So far we've had minimal costs spent on running it and it's far more robust than newer cars we've both had! And didn't you say you're expertise is vintage cars? Stick with what you know
Oh and just for the record, even though we are trying to live as frugally as possible (in the aim to save money to get ourselves into a huge debt with a mortgage ) I still want want wantI have just gotten stronger at saying NO to myself! You will do it too if it means that much to you

DFW: I'm a "jack of all trades, master of none"
. Seriously, my wife and I have been running classic cars and motorbikes since before we met (both of us since 17) and we "have a play" with the mechanical stuff. Neither of us do bodywork but we know a man that can.
My wife and I feel determined to make this happen so are either trying to make money out of our wants (so we still get) or learning (slowly) to say "no". I suppose we are lucky to often want old (and sometimes desirable) things.2018 totals:

Hmm sometimes old doesn't mean cheap though
I should know i've been eyeing up antique furniture all evening and every time someone tells me to go to ik3a or argustos i tell them it's tat
(all thanks to a dad that used to take me to furniture auctions on a Saturday morning :rotfl:) so instead am watching several things on fleabay that cost 3times the amount :rotfl:thankfully the wine ran out before I started getting bid happy
In your case though if you think you can make money, I say go for it :T

Not at all, do you honestly think I'd buy something just because it is "cheap"?
Though in my book buying something expensive to last can still count as MSE
. MSE does not have to equal cheap, now there is a provocative statement.
As you all know I HATE IKEA with a passion.2018 totals:

I'm the same...solid B/B+ student at school, solid data from work, etc, and for a long time felt bad that I didn't seem to be "naturally good" at anything.
Then I realised...turning my hand to anything IS what I'm good at!
Took me about ten years to realise this is a strength...my friends at school who got As almost inevitably got Cs and Ds too. If you're a jack of all trades...you can turn your hand to anything and get results, which means you have a good advantage in most situations over those who specialise.
Also another HUGE well done on walking out of that car dealership!!

Monday 4th November, 2013.
Day 65.
Dear Diary,
It's been "just another manic Monday, wish it were Sunday ... 'cos that's my fun day, it's just another manic Monday". Before I launch into a tirade about how much I dislike my crazy Monday schedule, I'll take a step back and remind myself it's over and instead focus on the positive for this diary post.
During my early twenties, I used to get a buzz out of buying and selling stuff. I was not hopelessly attached to every last one of my material possessions and I (mainly) had a laugh out of driving about in some car I thought were cool, each of my collections were liquid a (often tiny) business entity of their own. I did not blow money for any other reason than to "impress" others, which in turn only seemed to leave those said others thinking "p***k". Today, my wife said I was turning back into the man she married: back then I wasn't the miserable Alex she has endured for more years than my son has been alive.
Now, I'm hanging onto these good times, praying that I really can become not only the man I used to be but better. Somebody who is still me but fundamentally secure, not seeking to "impress" anybody other than the ones closest to me, I've punished myself for being a "freak" for longer than I care to remember. Perhaps, I ought to just embrace it instead; after all, it's far too mainstream to be up to your eyes in credit card debt for me to participate any longer.
On a less serious note Mrs. K. and I are going to see the a brilliant fireworks show tomorrow evening with her family. Really looking forward to that, even if it involves the in-laws. What's the worse they can do? Imply I'm Mrs. K.'s "bit of posh"!

Alex.2018 totals:
