London Tips anyone?

First time taking the kids to London, already got myself a friends & family railcard & booked the train saving myself around £80 for starters, I have a few questions & hoping someone can help? (I've been to London a few times but will be doing all the 'touristy' things this time around!)

Best/Cheapest way to get from Euston/Kings Cross to hotel?

Bringing us to hotel - any deals on at the moment, Friday/Sat night in November coming in around £200 in total for a basic central hotel, is this good?

Any tips on the best day's/nights to see the sights? What's better through the day & what's best at night? Is anything open at nights that you can do with kids?

Any tips for booking attractions & getting a discount? Seen some 2 4 1 offers on the national rail web site & been looking at voucher web sites, any where else offer discounts?

Best way to get around London? Will my f&f railcard discount apply for the underground?

Any places to avoid with kids? Any must do/see with kids?

Anything else feel free to chip in, thanks in advance for any help :):j

  • Never tip. Londoners are lovely people, hard working, pleasant and always smiling. Make sure that you and your family are up early and about during the rush hour, ideally stand at the top or bottom of escalators and take the time to read your maps, or stop unexpectedly so that you block pavements. Take pushchairs and prams on the Tube or buses whenever possible. A cheery smile and a happy Good Morning will placate most Londoners. Don't worry about having the right money for anything or your tickets to hand, Londoners are happy to wait. Always try to talk in rhyming slang and if you don't know any then just make it up, Londoners love it.

    Me too!

Seriously though, if you're coming into Kings Cross / Euston there are quite a few hotels within walking distance.

There's a new(ish) Premier Inn along Euston Road, and quite a selection of hotels in Southampton Row.

There is nothing Londoners love more than chatting to strangers on the bus or Tube. If you ever need help, don't be shy to ask someone - they will be delighted to tell you where to go.

Worst thing about this site is the bad responses

It's a money saving site & I'm asking for tips on saving money - that would be the whole point of the site, if I'd wanted bad jokes I'd have asked for them.
Don't get what it is about this site that compels people to be such idiots?
Every single post you see ridiculous replies to!

I thought the first reply was brilliant. Sorry you didn't. But read between the lines. There are some good hints for how to avoid interfering with the lives of the locals!

Depends where the hotel is. Family Railcard Travelcard bought at a main tube station may be cheap.
Bringing us to hotel - any deals on at the moment, Friday/Sat night in November coming in around £200 in total for a basic central hotel, is this good?
Travelodge Covent Garden £220. Or head east of the City and prices fall, accommodation improves but you get a long journey everyday.
Any tips on the best day's/nights to see the sights? What's better through the day & what's best at night? Is anything open at nights that you can do with kids?
Daytime - museums. Lots of free museums! A lot of walking will do you good and let you see loads. What do you want to see?
Best way to get around London? Will my f&f railcard discount apply for the underground?
Foot and tube. Railcard hold allow you to buy slightly discounted daily travel cards.

    Thanks,
I've been to London plenty of times but always flown so the train is a first for me, always walked everywhere before & only got train/underground to go to the other side of the city, kids can't walk as much & time is limited hence the reason for asking these questions despite being before.
Kids 6-8, asked them what they want to do & was told London Eye, Natural History Museum, all the normal sightseeing like Big Ben & they want to go into Buckingham Palace but it's closed for Winter to visitors?
London Tower/Bridge I've never done so planning that aswell.

Looked into the London Pass - anyone any thoughts on this?
& the package deals on the London Eye web site?
Also have an employee cashback web site (like quidco) that I'm checking out, 25% off Madame Tussauds sounds good to me!

Do you have any Tesco club card vouchers ?
They can be exchanged for things to do in London.
