Free car tax.Not many people know this !

The majority of tax is done via fuel and vat, road tax isnt even used up repairing roads so this is a storm in a teacup
Worry about people using red diesel, they are really getting something for nothingharveybobbles wrote: »Nothing illigal about it, as long as the car is used for the disabled oerson.
My own car has a disabled tax on it - my neighbour offered it to me as they don't have a car and every member of their family is useless.
I'm the one who takes him to his appointments/treatment 3 days a week and runs them around the shps etc on other days
Sounds fair, good on you0 -

When my Dad was working and my Mum was on DLA, my Mum was told it made no difference that my Dad used the car for work as that was of benefit to her, i.e it allowed my Dad to bring in an income for the household which my Mum directly benefitted from. So long as the car was available for her to be taken to appointments/shopping etc etc whenever she needed it there wasn't a problem.
The fact my Dad also used the car to go to/from work was not a problem.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

mmm. ok. tbh i wondered how they would be able to police it, how would anyone know. there will be times when she is not in the car as she is in the hospital waiting to be picked up or she has not with her dad whilst he collects prescriptions, gone to the take -away/supermarket to get her something she fancies.the way it was explained to me was that she always had to be in the car with him. im assuming that we dont have to apply for a blue badge in order to get the free tax even though she is entitled to one?0

I have done the same too. We run a small runabout for day to day and a 'gas guzzler' for when we need to use it for special reasons. I too have opted to get the latter on free tax - saves a fortune.0 -

Shhhhh! you would be shocked how many ordinary motorists are actually using 'red' diesel.
It is so easily obtainable.
Many I know have it delivered in 40 gallon containers which are kept in the shed or garage.0 -
You should be glad you're almost wish hasn't come true. I'm writing this from my hospital bed on my 6th major admission this year related to my disability. I don't know why you don't try this too- free room and board and no one hassling you to get up and go to work - really Mikeandrach could your comment have been more crass?0

Go lose limbs to cancer, or maybe suffer Osteoarthritis, total blindness or deafness, PTSD, Multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons... The list is endless. If you really wish you were disabled just to get free road tax and a closer parking spot to Tesco then you are seriously misguided.0
