A friend told me this recently and it is true.If you or your legal partner receive mobility allowance as part of DLA at the higher rate (they are all at the higher rate now) you can apply to the Dept.Work and Pensions by phone for a road tax exempt certificate. It matters not what car you link the exemption to other than that "it must be in use to take your disabled partner shopping".We have two cars and I have just saved £280 road tax on my Jag.

You missed one important condition from your statement ....
'registered in the name of someone who only uses their vehicle to help you – for example, takes you shopping'
It's not for use on any car which you occasionally get a lift in but which is used by someone else the rest of the time.0 -

I wonder whether RSA do something about insurance too?0 -
What you are doing is totally ILLEGAL, and you should be stopped.
Free tax is permitted for the SOLE purpose of transporting the disabled person, not swanning around in 'MY JAG'0 -
I never got anything about that, how long has it been going? xi came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0

Think that is a misquote or did you just mean to stir thing 'cause your bored.
This is the correct quote
Who can apply for a free disabled tax disc
To apply for a free disabled tax disc, the vehicle must be either:
Registered in your name, or
registered in the name of someone who ONLY uses their vehicle to help you – for example, takes you shopping.0 -
Nothing illigal about it, as long as the car is used for the disabled oerson.
My own car has a disabled tax on it - my neighbour offered it to me as they don't have a car and every member of their family is useless.
I'm the one who takes him to his appointments/treatment 3 days a week and runs them around the shps etc on other days0 -
We have recently been awarded dla for our daughter and a leaflet for the tax came with it. i called them to clarify if we can have one and was told that we couldnt as the car is NOT SOLELY used for her benefit.0
