Off - and mine is often off when I don't have visitors.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • Off, without exception. I think it's incredibly rude to leave it on.

I have a telly which is very rarely switched on so it's not really an issue. If I go to a pre-arranged visit to someone and their telly was on, I'd think it was very rude if they didn't turn it off. If they'd rather watch telly, why ask me round? If called in on the off chance, that'd be different.

If you're expecting a guest, they should have your attention not have to compete with Evil Edna!

Off visitors are there to chat. However, when it's a longer visit we may well went to watch something together.

If DD has just come for the weekend we usually watch whatever we want. It's as if she's never been away.

  • TV is such a distraction and interferes with conversation. Off.

    Off.

I could only see myself doing this for a 'formal' visit and I can't say I get those so anyone who knows me well enough to visit my house would not expect me to stand to attention.

I don't stand to attention but I do stand up if visitors enter the room.

Off. Including if guests are staying for a few days, the TV just does not go on.

It also goes off at family meal times when we do not have guests, unless there is a specific agreement that supper will be had on our laps whilst watching a TV programme. Maybe once/twice a week.

At my SiL house they have the TV on or even turn it up if conversation is drowning it out.

I am very fond of them but this appalls me.

I can't stand it when I visit people and they put/leave the TV on. My older brother is a sod for this - their telly is on morning, noon and night. I can't abide it!!

I seldom have the TV on as I don't watch it very much but even if I was a massive telly addict I wouldn't do it.

Actually - it annoys me more than I thought - I can feel myself thinking my brother needs telling to knock it on the head as it is infuriating!

I remember as a child my Mother always turned off the television when someone came to the house,( much to our annoyance at times)! she said it was the height of rudeness to have it on, and I have to agree with her.

It very much depends on who is visiting me and for what reason, as to whether the TV stays on or not. If I invite friends over for an evening then the TV is always off as I just want to enjoy their company and catch up with them.

When family or friends visit during the day we tend to spend a lot of time at the back of the house, in the kitchen diner or out in the garden. I am quite happy for the kids to be in the lounge watching a bit of TV. It gives us adults time to chat in peace and quiet without being interrupted. My dad sometimes asks to watch a bit of sport, if a footie match or some golf tournament is on, which is fine. Its nice to see him enjoying his passions with his grandchildren.

There is always music playing in my home, often just in the background. It helps me to relax and no-one ever seems to mind it when they come and see me.

Perhaps they're too polite to tell you. My best friend does this and it drives me up the wall, although I've never told her so.
