TV on or off with visitors

Depends on the visitor and why they are there.
My on gripe is people who come over then spend hours on their mobile, where as if I get a call its "oh I have someone here can I call you back?"

I don't really watch TV anyway so it would be unlikely to be on in the first place, but I certainly wouldn't turn it onOfficially Mrs B as of March 2013

I think it is very rude to leave a television on in the room whilst you have guests. It implies you have nothing to talk about, so begs the question of why they would visit in the first place.
The only acceptable exception would be if you had some background music on one of the radio channels on Sky.0 -
Depends who's round as we often have takeaway and a film nights with friends (so obviously tv on) but if it's my grandparents/mum/landlady etc then always tv off.
I find it really hard to hold a proper conversation with the tv droning on in the background plus I grew up being told it was bad manners to leave the tv on if people are round.
I think there are some exceptions though such as if people are staying overnight or if my SIL or aunt bring their children round I'll stick it on for them.0 -

This ^^^ I have friends that keep the tv on when people visit and I think it's very rude. Their attention gets divided, they are trying to have a conversation with you and they are turning to look at the the tv all the time. It's like they're only listening to what you say if it's more interesting than some soap. I feel like saying Look if you don't want to talk to me then I'll leave.£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

It very much depends on who is visiting me and for what reason, as to whether the TV stays on or not. If I invite friends over for an evening then the TV is always off as I just want to enjoy their company and catch up with them.
When family or friends visit during the day we tend to spend a lot of time at the back of the house, in the kitchen diner or out in the garden. I am quite happy for the kids to be in the lounge watching a bit of TV. It gives us adults time to chat in peace and quiet without being interrupted. My dad sometimes asks to watch a bit of sport, if a footie match or some golf tournament is on, which is fine. Its nice to see him enjoying his passions with his grandchildren.
There is always music playing in my home, often just in the background. It helps me to relax and no-one ever seems to mind it when they come and see me.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
i like something in the background when visiting otherwise its so deathly quite
This, usally I'll turn it down so its not exactly watchable over the conversation but same time I think it makes the room seem abit more friendly having it on...does that make sense?People don't know what they want until you show them.0
