Flat noise talking to neighbours

^ I would just sit it out until you can sell. It really won't get much better unless the neighbours above move out and the flat above remains unoccupied. You can try sticking things to the ceiling but a lot of the noise will be transmitted via the walls too. You might end up spending thousands, ruining the look of the rooms and getting a very small reduction in noise which may still be unbearable to you.
Some people are okay with noise from neighbours, others aren't.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -
One other thing: if I ever bought a flat again I would make sure I would test noise from above, below the sides and the communal areas as I am very sensitive to noise from neighbours.
Having said that, houses aren't necessarily a whole lot better as I found out when I moved from my flat to my current house!Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -

Customer feedback of colour red underlay. "Comfortable but sound reducing qualities negligible"
I wouldn't take any notice of that one-off reviewer, it's possibly a rival company for all you know. EVERYONE raves about Colour Red for its noise reduction qualities. It's been laboratory tested, so that reviewer who claimed the reduction was negligible is either telling porkies, or suffers from an ear or psychological condition.
Here's a link explaining it in black and white:

If you don't mind me saying, you seem very pessimistic and negative about all the advice given you. If you are suffering from the effects of noise you would try anything to help it, so I don't understand why you seem to be putting obstacles in the way? As for asking your joint freeholder, surely you have his contact details? Why are you scared to ask him? It's only a reasonable request, and one he has to agree to otherwise he will be in breach of the lease. He'll be benefitting too, as he won't hear noise from below, and his heating costs will be lower due to the thick underlay. It will also feel thick and luxurious t walk on - so you'll all be winners
For the final time, Colour Red underlay is the next best thing to soundproofing - I know - because I have listened whilst it was tested upstairs by my friends - and you cannot hear a thing. Try to imagine a person walking on a mattress - and you'll get the idea.
God luck!0 -

I'm just trying to to do proper research before spending lots of money/ risk a dispute with the landlord rather than trust a one forum reply as concrete research. When you sell a house you have to say if has there being a dispute. If I ask the landlord to fit underlay because the noise is effecting the quality of my life and he says NO, then you have a dispute and have to disclose or risk being sued.
One thing I don't understand is why soundproof matting is soooo much more expensive. Colour red is about £5 per SQ metre sound matts like acoustlay etc are about £30? that just got me questioning the sound reducing quality of colour Red. Do you work for them ;-)
Just saying if I spend loads and it doesn't work Ill post on this forum and people like Taff will say I'm an idiot for listen to one forum reply and not doing research.
This is my last reply to you as I'm starting to wonder if you're genuine....other people seem dubious about you too.
But for what it's worth, NO, I do not work for a carpet/underlay company. But that doesn't mean I have no knowledge of what I or my friends buy! As it happens, acoustic matting is more expensive than impact underlay because I believe it is made from a totally different material, which costs much more. Simple. Again, you are being suspicious and negative......why are you like that?
You say you are trying to do research into soundproofing and not rely on a forum, so why come on here - starting 3 different threads - asking the same question, if you had no intention of heeding the advice given you? The more you say, the more I'm beginning to think you're not genuine.
Just do yourself a favour and research somewhere else where you feel the advice will be beneficial to you. By the way, why did you say you were buying a house when that wasn't true?
Very strange error.....0 -
