Flat noise talking to neighbours

  • All I can tell you from first hand experience is that Colour Red underlay, coupled with carpet, reduces impact noise to such a degree that you can barely hear a sound from above.
From experience, do you know how effective underlay is in reducing sound from the room below?
  • OP Could you suggest the neighbour and landlord helps in the cost of thick underlay and carpet or other soundproofing as they will benefit by having more privacy. You could also suggest to the landlord you are avoiding a dispute as it could affect the saleability of both properties.
Spending £500? on the best possible underlay and a new carpet split between the owners of two, £200,000 flats seems very cheap for the benefit it should provide.

How do you think I should ask the landlord. We own the freehold and a lady is in charge shall I go through her. Also how should I word it?

    Thanks
Tell them you need to get this sorted as it is really impacting your quality of life. Suggest as the underlay or soundproofing will provide privacy for the tenant and new carpet will be a valuable improvement for the landlord ask if they are willing to contribute. If you know the room size before asking consider how much you are willing to pay yourself.

I live in a new build flat, we are on the ground floor so we have the carpark below us, we don't hear our neighbours above, the neighbours to the side or cars starting below us. Before we bought our flat we ensured it would be sound proofed enough for us, I went in to the flat upstairs and jumped around on the wooden floor to see if my wife could hear it, she couldn't and as when we were looking at the garden we discovered that next door were watching a film with surround sound we knew internal walls were well insulated.

With any home that isn't detached you need to think about noise before you buy/rent.
