Even with a possible increase in housing benefit and tax credits it will go nowhere near making up the loss of his wages.
His sacking could be considered due to gross misconduct in which case sanctions could still apply.0 -

As you know their tax credits will take earnings to date so wont cover anywhere near his wages
Next year they'll be quids in and probably better off
However, she needs to ditch his lazy a$$ as he is hardly someone Id want to share my bed, but that is her choice.
the facts are they will be worse off till april then get more.0 -

Surely tax credits and HB with just 1 child and an income of £900 a month will go nowhere near making up the loss of the £1500 a month wage that he has just chucked away.0 -

Sadly next year there will be little difference. Child benefits are large (£85 pw) plus HB, CTB etc mean little difference.
The labour govt set it out to work part time and get over full time wages.
It's the reason those who are PT feel the pinch working more hours due to loss of benefits.
In short 24 hours per couple on NMW is optimum for benefits whilst renting. After work related costs of travel and lunches etc you are the same as working in reality as WTC and CTC and HB if renting make up the difference.0
