I completely understand your point about timing. We would probably look at trying for another towards the end of next year so that baby would (ideally) be due between June-Sep 2015 to coincide with school starting (a couple of months overlap of daughter being at nursery and having a newborn would be managable). My daughter was premature so that is also something I am bearing in mind as a possiblity with a 2nd child.

It might be worth keeping in mind the statistical disadvantage you'd be placing a child at by having them at the end of a school year, obviously nature doesn't always play ball but I'm not sure why anyone would plan on a summer birth.

Just because it would mean the minimum amount of time between going on maternity leave and my daughter starting school and therefore the minimum amount of time we would have to pay nursery fees while I am not working. If a 2nd baby was born in July (for example) it would only be 2 months before school starts so we would only be paying for 1 month of nursery while there is only one wage coming in (last month of nursery has already been paid as a deposit). It would also work quite well IF I was to stop work altogether as I could leave work in May/June and would not have to worry about arranging childcare for my daughter as I would be able to do all the school runs etc.

Just make sure you think about whether the short term benefit is worth the potential long term losses:
