Not bothered about engine size?
How about an 2006-10 Chrysler 300C. All the mod cons. Engines from 3.0 litre to 6.1 litre and a smoooooooooth conventional slushbox.0 -

The OP wants a nearly new car (up to a year old) and I hardly think the 300 C is comparable to the Golf and Astra. The running costs alone are enough to make you run for the hills...:o0 -
Thank you everyone for your advice.
I am going for a petrol.
Based on the above and other research I've done I'm dropping the Golf as I don't like it enough to risk the dsg box.
I'm erring more towards the new design Astra which I think looks sleek and I know loads of people who've had Vauxhalls and they seem to last the distance.
Thanks again!0 -
Careful with the astra. The astra H had a 6 speed mechanical clutch affair, except the 1.6 that had a 4 speed torque converter auto.
The astra j is all 6 speed auto.
No idea how they work, the single clutch auto in the corsa was terrible though.
Have you looked at the E11 note? (The E12 will be CVT)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Since you have the Auris on your list, you might want to consider the hybrid version. Assuming it's the same eCVT box as the one I have on the Yaris hybrid, it's quite nice tbh
8 year warranty on the HV battery, 5 on the rest of the car so if you get a 1 year old, you'll have plenty of warranty left.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Hi thanks for the latest replies.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the Merc B? For my budget I'm looking at a three year old but they do look nice!0 -

Very few independents have the software to interrogate and service them so you are tied to main dealers - My Dad's main dealer charges £150+VAT per hour.
They were not universally popular either. The man without a signature.0 -

MB indy workshops of long standing hate the FWD things, they've got the equipment and knowledge in many cases (my own indy can but won't) but hate the things with a vengeance, hence not going to, the little blighters are horrible to work on anyway.0 -

Great car the B-Class, my mum was debating whether to get this or the A-Class but in the end she found it a bit big. The boot is MASSIVE and it is very spacious inside.
Avoid, avoid, avoid the auto CVT box as it's known for expensive costly faults. Diesel engines are better suited to the car, the B180 and B200 are the better bet.0
